The following overview should say something to your individual songs:
1. Welcome to my world
Initially minimalist, this song is based on a classic DM number of modern times.
Musically restrained, here is Dave's voice in the foreground.
2. Angel
A fat electro number that probably a bit too 'hard' 'comes across even one or the other fan. Reminiscent
on "The Dead of Night" (necessarily have to DM songs always compare ;-)) is, in the chorus then
beautifully melodic.
3. Heaven
What can I say .... a very very nice, harmonious song. The song is great, even (or perhaps because?) It
absolutely no typical DM-song. Martin shines through his usual harmonious backing vocals.
4. Secret To The End
Again such a electronic number, that you had well fitted as B-Side in the 90s of DM.
Clear vocals by Dave - possibly the low pitch will avenge tour, let's wait ;-)
5. My little universe
Getting used to is probably an apt description of this song. Certainly neither a dance nor a number
(Serious) aspirant as single release. But well, it was thought of "John the Relevator" back then.
Interesting are the beautiful analog sounds.
6. Slow
"Slow" makes its name, for it is a very slow piece. Everything generally very consistent, also appeared for the first time
on "Delta Machine" here on a guitar in its purest form. Sure you have to especially due to the sounds in the background here as well get used thereto, but the vocals tear something back 'out.
7. Broken
If DM should play this piece live, then it will certainly be transposed! Disagree entirely Daves voice, but he sings it very well. Melodic this song, simple, but very nice. A catchy tune, which is simply fully a Depeche Mode song.
8. The child inside
Martin L. Gore was certainly better pieces on albums .... of course no comparison with hits like "Somebody" or "A Question Of Lust", but it is a slow, electronic song with Mrtin on vocals. Not outstanding, but not bad.
9. Soft Touch / Raw Nerve
Very strong, reminiscent in the chorus to a nursery rhyme song ;-) Few percussions would certainly hurt anything to make the piece "around". But even here the sounds used are even more what makes the piece very clear to DM number.
10. Should be higher
A song medium speed, the - like almost all tracks on the album - the interplay of voice and sounds alive.
I'm not sure if Dave has hinbekommen the ultra high places singing so without the support of good studio technology ... let's see what he does live it. Certainly the Vocal Line is unusual that makes the song but not a bad piece. Would fit well the musical forth in the Violator-time by singing wise, it is rather in SOFAD / Exciter settled.
11. Alone
"Alone" sounds a bit like a demo version, because she will not reveal the extent of the song directly. One has the feeling that it "lacked" something - it seems to me as if continuous percussions made the songs "finished" and "round". But that's the interesting thing about "Alone" - it does not sound the way you expect a song. Nevertheless, a great piece!
12. Soothe My Soul
The upcoming single is again a blast! "SMOOTH my soul" is a great piece from the refrain has right catchy at the latest. Class sounds and tuned vocals = super song!
13. Goodbye
Hm .... Well .... here too should "get used to" fit well. No "classical" DM-piece. It sounds as if left over at the end of the album still sounds that you did not want to throw away and necessarily accommodate anywhere ;-)
The only piece on the disk, which can not be described as good to very good song.
Overall, a great album !! The 4 tracks of the bonus CD worth listening to, especially "All that's mine", which was included as a B-side on the single Heaven.
Even the booklet of the deluxe edition is very nice and convenient, because it contains a lot of band photos and texts in printed form.
So: 5 stars and strong buy recommendation!
