I use the external hard drive for about 2 years for data backup of my personal, important data. This objective satisfies the hard drive perfectly so far. If you look at the Renz ions of other external hard drives, so they may be a little faster, but usually a bit more expensive. The rate was for me so far but not relevant, since I do not permanently zugreife on the data, but used only occasionally during backup. Installed is a Seagate hard drive type ST1000LM 024 HN M101MBB. Reading / Writing Windows 7 and Linux Mint 17, the hard disk achieved 70 MB / s. Here are some measurements to speed (why can I add to a review no image?):
Operating System: Windows 7
Interface: USB 3.0
Format: NTFS
Software: CrystalDiskMark 3.0.3 x64
Number of read / write cycles: 5
Total data size: 1000 MB
Read / write speed:
Sequential: 69/69 MB / s
512K: 25/30 MB / s
4K: 0.32 / 0.81 MB / s
4K QD32: 0.46 / 0.79 MB / s
Pro:
Plug + Plug and Play = cable and get started (in Windows 7 and Linux Mint 14-17, probably also compatible with Windows 8, iOS and other Linux distributions)
+ Robust, thick cable
+ Power and data running over a single USB port (probably now standard on 2.5 "hard drives)
+ Power LED indicates mode:
Color provides information on USB: Green = USB 2.0, Blue = USB 3.0,
State provides information on Operation: Off = hard drive is not plugged in or in sleep mode, a = Permanently on, but no access, blinking = data to be read or written
+ Automatic sleep mode = hard drive turns itself off when it is connected, but a long time took place not accessible, automatically turns on again when accessing the Explorer
+ No separate power supply (probably now standard on 2.5 "hard drives)
+ Good workmanship of the case
+ Very quiet, very low vibration (only audible in a quiet room at really quite Access)
Neutral:
# No separate on / off switch (as with some external 3.5 "hard drives)
# Piano finish (looks classy, but also quickly scratched, fingerprints and dust are very conspicuous)
# Innately FAT32 (for files larger than 4 GB must be formatted, which is the default for Windows 7 and 8, in televisions receivers or NTFS but could cause problems, they often identify only FAT or FAT32 disk NTFS)
Cons:
- And therefore easy to move any extra rubber feet or the like and moved on a smooth surface
- LED extremely bright, sometimes, especially in the evening to be a bit disturbing
- Connecting cables rather stiff (due to design for USB 3.0) and about 40 cm quite short
Conclusion:
* Compact and fast hard drive
* Simple operation and handling
* Strong buy recommendation
