The E-M10 is a fascinating piece of technology. With this one can do things that do not go with more "elderly" cameras as a 550D easy; Examples:
- Remote Trigger mobile (wireless coupling may also transfer finished images)
- Built-in time-lapse timer
- VERY GOOD: Pinpoint exposure; you can see both in the viewfinder and on the display the "final" exposed image before triggers; a DSLR to do it either in Live View, or need after triggering the exposure in the display their controlling so take the camera from the eye; if it does not fit - start again and trigger again! :-(
- Highly accurate auto focus for pin sharp images: the contrast AF may be slightly slower than the AF phase of DSLRs, but it sits almost always 100% - result: the images are mostly knackscharf. Front or back focus: there's no more!
- RAW post-processing in the camera
- IBIS - built image stabilizer which shifts the sensor; thus each lens is automatically stabilized image
Another benefit is you can also argue that the device and lens more compact and lighter than a APS-C DSLR.
Why only 4 stars?
There are also a few things that are not so much me.
- White balance in artificial light bit too yellowish - can the 4yr old 550D better
- The menu structure is somewhat confusing .... There are three different logic pattern; compared to the ancient Canon menu structure Me a throwback
- Image Quality: The sensor technology in the E-M10 is indeed significantly newer than the elderly in the 550D; But apparently, this advantage is eaten up by the smaller sensor area again; the noise performance at higher ISOs from 3200 is no better than the old 550D
- Battery / card compartment cover very fragile and fiddly; must be true due to the limited space; but seems to me very unrobust - hopefully keeps the.
In Summer the E-M10 is but really a great part, and I have already started to build a small Olympus lens collection.
The 550D and its great lenses stay but only once.
