At the Piano I (Audio CD)

Customer Review

"The way to the heart is through the ear," says an Arab proverb, and will also apply to some German ears. The songs of Rio Reiser, who died in 1996 artists were always straight to the heart, because that's where they came yes. When the CD "On Piano I" inserts, you do not think that that heart is no longer beating, because the power and intensity that radiates voice of Rio Reiser also posthumous, are still courage still enjoy and touched one in Intimate.
About a hundred unreleased songs found in Rios chambers and form a discount that can only be described as a cultural treasure. Of the Rio-Reiser archive has (in Persona Gert Möbius, Rios brother, and Lutz Kerschowski, close friend and fellow musician from Rio) selected 18 songs to demonstrate the versatility of the underrated musician. There is no CD for the market, but rather a CD, as they would themselves like Rio Reiser safe. Some of the recordings are demos that somehow never fit on an album, but were nevertheless intended for publication.
Unlike other new releases will notice that this CD is made very loving. Even the original cover has a lot of nice characteristics that are very typical for the business, but very typical of Rio Reiser. For example, there is the reference to a Karl May book or the realization of an invention of Rio's father. More will not be revealed here, it discovered with your own senses.
The CD booklet is extremely informative and detailed, in addition to showing unpublished photos and a small section of Rios diary (Christmas 1972).
The very first song on the CD - "I sit on land" - is likely to be an unknown gem for most listeners, because it is from the children's radio play "devil You've Wind" from 1976. It's a good start, which invites you to Rio put ashore to let the ships pull into the distance and to go with him on a musical journey.
Here are 17 very different songs, including three mistaken live versions of clay bricks shards songs that Rio had sung at a concert in Berlin 1986, then three English titles that somehow not come across well. The weak point is not in the songs, even in Rio, but in the language. If Rio Reiser English singing, then something is lost from what did not bother him. There's no wit, no pun, it lacks the berlinisch Naughty, the magic in his voice. All of this can be found then but one hundred percent in the play "Do we laugh". The laughter goes a at the latest Marlene Dietrich song "I will love you." Every person who was close to Rio Reiser in any way, here can not resist moist eye or a lump in the throat, especially as the vote is acoustically incredibly close, it sounds downright intimate.
A little highlight of the CD is certainly the combination of three tracks that you simply must not hear individually. It would be criminal, after all, it was intended as a medley, and received, and just the transitions from one song to the next are awesome. Since Rio sings just been a German folk song (which, incidentally, he also liked to sing live) and then sets a sudden become a "Ohwembaweh", and every music lover knows, must follow what song. That Rio Reiser but then plays the tracks from the Rolling Stones, only underlines how much he knew his roots, to appreciate its effects.
Towards the end of the CD is a beautiful song, which unfortunately has a major shortcoming: It is far too short! "Far from here" is about a very special child, and hardly one is immersed in his world, it is also thrown out again. Here so many questions remain unanswered: Where is "here"? Before which door the child was sitting? What song sang it? Why is startled? Where it ran? And above all, what happened to the child?
Well, the nice thing about the CD's that the title to the Roman one at least one Roman two promises. Perhaps we learn still more about the child, about Rio Reiser. In any case, is already evident in the first edition clearly the ambivalence Rio Reiser, this constant juxtaposition of being sad and Happiness, fun and seriousness, hope and despair.
What makes this CD, is the reduction to the essentials. Only the voice and the piano, mercilessly strengths as identified weaknesses, and it attracts each artist shoes from which not even hinbekommt this musicality and vocal quality using great technology. The fact that the sound quality of the songs is not comparable to today's standards, is obvious. The recordings were made at concerts or at home in Rio Fresenhagen, are so wonderfully genuine and authentic.
The width of the repertoire that is gathered on this rare recordings, allows each listener, no matter what preferences to discover something for themselves. The cabaret lovers will find something just as the rock fan or an old potsherd.
Throughout the CD, which since November 1998 in the trade, produced very clever, the order of tracks is well chosen and Rio is not exploited, either as klimpernder entertainer, even as a singing poet. On the contrary: In an exemplary manner shows what lay between the poles broken myth and "King of Germany" in that it not just that was what Rio Reiser has done. It is good that it has been slow to release this time, because nothing is worse than a quickly produced CD, even a kind of sampler. That would be neither Rio Reiser yet become his public justice. But here you can see the work behind the shiny disc with the two free allowances fun and melancholy.
I hope that I could make a little appetite for a listening experience of a different kind. Hunger you must now himself silent, because after all is still valid: Nothing is more disappointing than the total explanation.
