Former catholic, Emmanuel Carrère has devoured all the books (or almost) on lépoque of the birth of Christianity, Flavius Joseph Ernest Renan through different translations of the New Testament. His 600-page book is the result of his rumination to say this is one story extension of the 1st century AD. A writer is not a historian, he can freely and romanticize what we said Emmanuel Carrère is not uninteresting. If I read the first half of his book carefully, I have struggled to finish as it goes in all directions, mixing danecdotes personal digressions and his own history and that of the apostles. In the end a rather heavy book to digest.
