Desplat is but consistently been not a bad choice. He works with similar nested topics he lässt- rather subtly incorporated into the score so one hears from time to time pieces from the predecessor ("Obliviate" and also "In Noctem" Hooper my I have been heard). Main Theme of the film is "Lily`s Theme" shown, it is the bittersweet hanger scores. He also has a main theme for the Battle of Hogwarts composed which is admittedly very impressive and emotional and one of the most outstanding pieces of the film series is ("Statues", "Courtyard Apocalypse" and "A New Beginning" are here special Anspieltipps). Even the beautifully sad "Severus and Lily" can be recorded as a separate theme.
The score is as before Part 7.1 already very dark ... And unfortunately, due to the fact that many other has already addressed the problem: the magic is missing! Well, from the point of the story focuses on the war in the magician world and less on the child's view of the subject even magic like the whole thing seem very fit ... On the other hand, this Potter Feeling- missing although the Hedwig Theme is heard often ... To come back again to John Williams: recall to Star Wars Episode 3 a really dark film, although unintentionally funny in some places, but story moderately seen very seriously. Williams managed excellently to create a dark, emotionally enthralling score without einzubüsen the Stars Wars flair! That may of course be due to his distinctive style ... Probably it is this which it makes at the end (not in vain used Desplat the Hedwig and Harry Theme as often or "copied" partly the Williams-style). Unfortunately, these are also missed opportunities ... So we hear "In the Chamber of Secrets" is not the "The Chamber of Secrets" theme of Williams (and on top of that is missing on the CD his own love theme to Ron and Hermione, which in the kissing scene to hear the two is ... WHY ?!).
As there would have been if Desplat had stretched the bow completely to the first three parts? Williams` Voldemort Theme expanded and perhaps would have attained ... A touch of "Window to the Past" here and there ... I would not have taken the man ill. It is and remains the musical unity that I lack in the end! His music for the final battle (or "showdown" and "Voldemort`s End") precipitates shockingly dull. (It begins with "Procession" promising other than Voldemort including Death Eaters in the morning at the gates of Hogwarts deployed and Harry's "corpse" showcasing). Imagine here now the Williams theme for Voldemort to Harry's Theme in combination before ... Two topics that billow in the final battle continues and reach unprecedented heights! It is simply a wasted potential. Of course, a composer should not necessarily copy of other ... But in a film series like Harry Potter whose flair lives with the music, it's just a shame not to use headed and possibly to develop.
Conclusion:
So how to rate this score? I myself am not a professor of music and certainly not qualified enough to judge here about Desplat's skill. For the soundtrack definitely audible even for the novice, Highlights. I can understand both the one who is more than satisfied with this but also those which nothing can abgewinnen the whole. It is ultimately a matter of taste. Let's be honesty it could have been worse! So just remain a solid, but not outstanding end (which in my opinion both for the film and for music applies). It has happened ... There is no longer shaking.
Addendum:
The score Parts of the other films are then by the way not to hear. Who owns the other albums, however, may be yes but also tinker his own track list.
