The police investigation as a starting point, the gruesome discovery of a young woman murdered in a London cemetery.
This is an opportunity for the ambitious Isabelle Ardery to prove himself at the head of the investigation team. But to solve this case, it will appeal to his predecessor in the post: Thomas Linley, temporarily on leave from New Scotland Yard, because of personal drama.
The plot will take place partly in the capital of England but also in Hampshire and specifically within the New Forest National Park (with its ponies, thatchers his masters and Agisters -for those who have children "addicted" to the feline series "Family Feud" Erin Hunter, it comes from the same region).
The description of this survey is interspersed with the mention "fictionalized" another fact various authentic and sordid: the kidnapping and murder in 1993 of a two year old child (James Bulger), for 2 children ( 3 in the book) ten years, in a shopping center near Liverpool.
The intrigues carefully woven, come together to provide a final that does not disappoint.
Elizabeth George decidedly good talent. She manages to give a lot of character and depth to his characters, recurring ("Tommy" Linley and Barbara Havers) and new (including the formidable and / or pathetic Isabelle Ardery).
In this novel, she brews again the themes of the frantic search for love through fear of loneliness or difficulty of redemption.
The humor is not however missing with eg improbable makeover sessions with an angry Barbara guns of fashion.
Another success for the queen (US) black novel (English) with this new novel, recalls its previous, and not duplicate, thus avoiding a cloned George.
