Monster Hunter Tri incl. Classic Controller Pro (video game)

Customer Review

Beware Monster Hunter, Monster Hunter goes into a new round! "Monster Hunter Tri" is a good piece, which is the first next-gen offshoot and also the first Nintendo-exclusive installment of the series. While in the country of origin Japan half gamer world was upside down already at the announcement of the title in this country provides only for the diehard fan base for Freudensprünge. Now it is time to find out if the game fans' expectations met and whether non-connoisseurs of the series are well advised with the virtual hunting.

Your journey begins in the handsome fishing village Moga where you are brought closer to the basics. Here you can save in your cabin, make weapons at the blacksmith or buy items in the shop. Is it equipped with the necessary knowledge, you can go with a clear conscience to the chase. After leaving the village one jumps out the impressive backdrop eye. Both the walk-world, as well as the backgrounds look great graphically and exude an unmistakable sense of freedom. Unfortunately, the world also has a big flaw that runs through the entire game. Looking at the map, you will notice one in that it consists of nothing but "patches", which are interconnected by thin routes. You pass one of these paths, you have to wait a short charging time, before you can enter the next spot. The large, free world is not as free as initially expected. But the ongoing load times are not only annoying, but also take the world a lot of authenticity. If you, for example, followed by rapid monsters, you simply run into the next area, and hey presto are away all opponents. The world is therefore in principle only of many small game reserves, where the monsters are caught.

"Monster Hunter Tri" is a prime example of a game that makes it extremely difficult for newcomers. Who never Monster Hunter has played, is slain at the beginning most likely of all the statements. Everywhere Text window and there are countless ways that are dealt with so quickly that you hardly have a chance to understand them properly. This hurdle one must first overcome in order to properly get into the game. But it can just as well happen that you throw the game after half an hour in the corner and never touches again. Meanwhile, you should be aware of when you play his first Monster Hunter with "Monster Hunter Tri". The many text windows to make matters worse still are far too small by the way, however, are not the only obstacle. Another problem for beginners is probably the rather slow game started. Instead of chasing from the beginning the fattest monster, you have to be content with small, weak hunting objects and collect once excessive raw materials. And that is not to say that one prepares long gonna be a half an hour to the actual hunting. Until the game really gets going, can elapse loose ten hours. It's laudable that the developers want to introduce the newcomer slowly, but that's for my taste a bit too much of a good thing.

The infamous raw materials can be found at any point in the game world by grasses, stones or similar are marked. In addition, you can eviscerate killed monsters to gain so more raw materials. In itself, this is a good idea, but unfortunately the carcasses dissolve after a short time simply to. So if you are fighting simultaneously against many monsters, you can simply eviscerate the last, since the previous still during the fight just disappear. It is of course possible to gut all the bodies, but when one is doing constantly cut away from other monsters, it is allowed to be at some point simply. And the ordinary commodities can be a real fun killer for so many players. For hours to dig some stuff out of the ground, instead of going to the big hunt, makes about no fun at all.

If you have the long introductory period only once behind him, the game unfolds its full potential. The long battles against gigantic monsters are exactly what makes Monster Hunter. If you spent half an hour fighting a giant dragon who demanded an all tactical possibilities, you know again why you currently playing this game. In addition to the intelligent and challenging fighting behavior of monsters and their outstanding design is striking. Each monster is an exceptional one-off that was perfectly adapted to its surroundings. This results in a believable world with a very natural-looking ecosystem. Brand new are also the underwater monsters that you have to fight in their habitat.

The right weapon is of course essential for hunting, a total of seven types of weapons are available. In addition to wholesale and longsword there is also a normal sword plus sign, hammer, spear, crossbow and the Morph-ax that can be transformed from an ax in a sword by pressing a button. Also worth mentioning is the crossbow, which can be individually assembled from three parts, which significantly affects their values. In addition, there are several items, such as potions that can often decide between victory and defeat. Another new feature is "Cha-Cha", which replaces the cats from the previous parts, fighting by your side. In what way it helps you, you can decide yourself by him touches of many masks, each adds a different capability.

The game is controlled with Wiimote and Nunchuk or the Classic Controller. When the latter does not already own, you should seriously consider the game as a bundle to buy, because the variant with Wiimote and Nunchuk is not highly recommended. Here the shock and alternative attacks are in fact controlled by movements that are often accidentally triggers. The Classic Controller control is however not a problem. The camera can indeed adjust very spongy, but otherwise there is nothing to complain about here.

A big feature is the extensive online mode, the course, particularly stands out on the Wii. Here expect not about small minigames, but just like in single player a big world with equally great monsters that you can roam with his colleagues. Thus, one can approach through consultation with more tactics to the fights, as anyway. The whole is complemented by the compatibility with Wii Speak, which makes the tactical approach more comfortable and more fun. There is even a split-screen mode, which allows you to go offline for two to hunt.

Conclusion: "Monster Hunter Tri" is exactly what wanted the fans of the series. It is a logical continuation of the series, with all its strengths and weaknesses unfortunately. For example it is completely incomprehensible that the world of Monster Hunter merely consists of many small fields, which are connected by load times. Equally questionable is the clumsy beginning of the game, the already scared most beginners before the game in the first place really gets going. But once you struggling with the really big monsters, shows "Monster Hunter Tri" what it really can. Then there are the truly monstrous game time and a well-functioning online mode. Who Monster Hunter knows and loves, so it should necessarily access. Newcomers, however, prefer to think twice about buying.
