I have a long time nothing more bought by Sony, since this company so at many levels (TV, camera, laptops) the competition somewhat lags behind often at even higher prices.
However, this does not apply to anything that has to do with CDs and other discs. My experiences with CD and Mini Disc players (and MP3) were 1 A, both in quality and durability.
Important for those interested was first time the unusual appearance of this model here:
It is not as wide as most other "building blocks" of a video / hi-fi system, yet you can put on top of any other product.
Although the form of a highly flattened pyramid is not as high as in the photos above, but still inconvenient for stacking.
However, where this player on top of other equipment plan or even alone for himself, he is with his slightly exotic-spacey appearance
in pitch-black piano lacquer eyecatcher. I like it very much.
Opens and closes the drawer you, you will be surprised by the extremely quiet mechanics. My old Panasonic was against unpleasantly loud.
The same applies to all the technology and navigation:
The Sony is extremely responsive and precise, yet tremendously softly.
By pressing on the small remote control Spultasten (or other function keys), you will be surprised how quickly these commands are translated into action.
There a recent Samsung model of my father and my Panasonic is absolutely no chance - and despite slowness also hakelig and louder.
Therefore, I can also some weak reviews from reviewers regarding "buzzing" and understand "drive noise" from the beginning of the year 2013 not quite.
Either they had Monday device, Sony has remedied or you have written deliberately
- Samsung is known for just this very disturbing noises.
Also handy that the S4100 remembers the last location of a DVD / Blu-ray, even if it is already turned off (but not via plug).
The offer also many other devices.
But now to the image:
It's honestly world class.
The Blu-ray playback is so sharp and clear that I have the sharpness of my LCD TV's a little reduced - otherwise it would formally have to looked good.
A decent picture supply yes most Blu-ray players, but what is the situation with DVD's?
- I had a fear that I would have to buy all the DVDs now on Blu-ray because of the enormous difference. Far from it.
What rausholt the S4100 itself from old DVD movies, is truly world class !!
While 1080p upscaling also supply the other manufacturers, but here the Sony is clearly in the lead. The DVD's are honestly to HD DVD - and the free.
Remote Control:
Again, full 5 stars. The remote control is small, handy and through the grooves on the underside with a tacky feel.
And the range perfectly complements the responsiveness of the player.
I kept the thing in front of a wooden table, yet the signal arrived.
Disadvantages:
If I had to now look for a downside I could find fault with the piano black finish, because it really is extremely vulnerable to dust and fingerprints.
But precisely because of these players really looks chic and classy, I wipe a unique about it a week is still better than a dull piece of plastic
- The same applies to the bold design choices of the pyramid roof.
Oh, one more drawback: The S4100 has not got a red-white RCA connectors more. People with old integrated amplifiers are an adapter (from 15 euros) or
need to buy a modern HDMI receiver. (I decided not due to the age of my system for the latter more, here but for Sony.)
CONCLUSION:
After two months of extensive commissioning and troubleshooting I can forgive only crystal clear 5 star here. For the price there is nothing better
- And possibly to buy soon equal another second for the far future.
