I came from the Canon EOS 40D for 5D Mk II. With both cameras, the operating concept is very similar and very user-friendly. The Canon 5D Mark II, I noticed positive that the resolution and image quality are impressive and that the noise performance, even at high ISO values (up to 3200) is extremely low. Furthermore, I very bright viewfinder, the improved ISO Auto and significantly improved VGA display is made a positive impression. The display can be read easily even in very bright environments (eg snow) and is due to the higher resolution much better for sharpness evaluation. Moreover, the sensor cleaning system compared to the Canon 40D seems to have been further improved. Despite the large mirror and some objective change both the sensor and the focusing screen for about 4500 trips is surprisingly clean. I also like about the Canon 5D Mark II that the high resolution provides more flexibility for later cuttings. Compared with the Canon 40D but I was misbehaving, that the CF card lock (unfortunately plastic) and plastic components to the battery compartment closure when holding the camera, especially with a heavy zoom lens, creak. In the much cheaper Canon 40D This problem does not occur. In addition, an external microphone (eg Sennheiser MKE 400) is required for high quality video recording with stereo sound. Due to the already described in other reviews the limitations of automatic focusing, the Canon 5D Mark II, despite the very good video quality (sensor surface is 10-20x greater than with a standard camcorder) no replacement for a camcorder. In summary it can be said that the Canon 5D Mk II in combination with high-quality lenses (eg Canon EF 24-105mm f / 4 L IS) is a great camera.
