Functionality:
On-site features are numerous. The beliegende Quickstart Guide documenting them only a fraction. Also on the enclosed CD in vain after the complete manual. Only on the Nikon website can be found in the download area the entire 244-page reference manual in German. Here, Nikon has probably saved a couple of printing costs.
The camera programs range from complete automation, which even detects the scene you have just taken and the appropriate shooting mode selected, via various intermediate stages, up to the complete manual mode. Here can then shutter speed and aperture value set itself and it can be manually focused.
Very nice is the auto-record a bracketing. This created the camera while snapping three photos: one normal, one lower and one overexposed. These three images then lets the PC an HDR create image that looks much better than a normal photo. The camera is very quickly when taking pictures, a tripod is here but still recommended to avoid camera shake.
Another nice feature is the panorama function. An assistant helps here in the preparation, a tripod is highly recommended here as well.
Filming also succeed very well. For this, there is even an extra-timer so you do not need only an extra switch to another mode on the camera. For the short video, the Nikon just fine.
The built-in GPS module is a nice feature. If it is activated, the photos are automatically tagged with the GPS coordinates where they were taken. Thus, the holiday memories can be assigned even years later to the right place, without the need to do it very much. As with the navigation system also, however, the camera takes some time after the initial power to determine its position. For quick snapshot this function therefore they ought not, be patient is needed.
Thanks to the 42 times optical zoom you can capture even further away lying motives still good. A steady hand is very helpful at maximum zoom, the image stabilizer also.
Image Quality:
See the photos made for me as a layman very good. Even at high zoom level succeed class photos, which are a compact camera ahead. A small tip should be said that the Nikon is not set after commissioning on the best image quality, but is only available on the normal level. In the menu you should switch to Fine. Although a result, fewer pictures on the memory card, but you get the full picture quality.
The video made look good too. For the short holiday in between the quality in my opinion is more than adequate.
Additional software:
On the CD you can still find two programs. ViewNX 2 provides basic functionality to edit photos to and to transfer from the camera to the PC. For images dubbing but you need the software is not necessarily, the camera is also recognized by the PC without any problems. The second software can subsequently from several photos to create panoramic images. But here one should previously read the instructions in the software, so you knipst compatible photos.
These two programs are quite nice as a bonus, I would have but rather exchanged for a printed complete manual.
Conclusion:
All in all, the Nikon a really good job. The photos look great, the functionality is great. Those who want something more control over the camera settings occasionally, can do so with the Nikon, without sacrificing the normal operation on the convenience of automatic. The big push is helpful and well used. GPS and a classic viewfinder as an alternative to real good and large LCD display round out the picture. Me only disturbs that you have to search for the complete instructions. If this beliegt not already printed, then they should be found at least on the beliegenden CD and not just on the Internet. Since it but at least there is a German plus very detailed guidance, to me is not enough for a point deduction.
Therefore, there is the full five stars for a really great camera.
