Very well written it like a candle to other more recent novels that addresses the same subject, namely the rural survival disaster; here it is nuclear ... This book is written in the form of annals written by the leader of a group of survivors and is happening in the South-West of France just after the mid-twentieth century. The first part, which recounts the life of this group before "The event" allows to immerse the player in realistic enough manners of a French rural life. The rest of the novel narrates the efforts of this group to survive against adversity of fate and the complexity of human nature. The story is captivating and it's hard to let go of this book before the last page: it will have its place of honor in my library! Be careful with collectors: the cover image shown in the ad (castle) is no longer that of the edition received (the wheat fields) ...
