Bound by Flame (computer game)

Customer Review

After a few hours of play, I would like to make a small comment about "Bound by Flame" here.
First of all, the not so positive aspects, even if it was partly already discussed:

- Graphics: The game is graphically NOT next-gen. On the other hand, it runs smoothly on my laptop, which is getting comfortable with coming next-gen games problems. The system requirements are moderate, and this is reflected somewhat in the graphic again. Disturb hardly tuts me at the point but. Personally, I find something not unimportant, but when you see what the upcoming title as watchdogs presuppose etc ... then prefer something with "solid" graphics.

- Voice actor: I play in English, everything is okay. Not blockbuster moderately, but that was not to be expected.

- Story: Is not very original, but a bit what you can already occur. Since ego not have played out, I give to no conclusion.

Which brings me to the positive things:

- Control: Unlike many other published for the PC RPGs, the control is really good here. There is no console port, or can not be recognized as such, and it is implemented meaningful. That's downright invaluable. Since, other, also high-class games, cut a thick slice from. Of course you can also change the key assignment. The movements will be implemented quickly, which is very important while dodging example.
Skills and potions can easily assign different numbers.

- Difficulty: It should not be anything that's hard to compare with Dark Souls (2). Also at Bound by Flame will die one, that's for sure. One can choose the level of difficulty, and I started working with "Hawk" (normal). Bin draufgegangen a few times, but you can handle already, so gradually.

- Classes and abilities: One is a mercenary. Either way. Selection can be made then but from 3 skill trees, which is very reminiscent of Kingdoms of Amalur. Warrior, Rogue and fire mages are available. As a warrior, you can shock the opponent and block their entry to break through their defense. As a rogue, you can shift to the rear. Both are separated by fighting styles that are almost 1 to 1 swiped from "The Witcher". So when rogue Kamp style enabled can dodge etc ... Some skills are only effective when appropriately activated fighting style. Can you change the styles via keystroke. Conclusion: not many options, but everything very nicely implemented. One finds relatively easily into the system, that's a beautiful thing.

- Design: The appearance of the enemy and the world in general I like. The major opponents are varied and diversified, and the world feels authentic, albeit graphically not very polished, as already mentioned. One can give his companions also basic commands. The AI overall is average, but still are not the companion way.

- RPG elements: you can talk to many people who call options are (so far) varied. And the interlocutors also go a to a, say it is not a meaningless small talk. This is very well done.

- Skills, leveling: If leveling is obtained two skill points that can be either invested in a new skill or improve a learned skill. Depending on how many points you have invested in one of 3 skill trees, automatically turn higher skills freely (as Kingdoms of Amalur halt). In addition, you get a point for special ... "perks" like Fallout 3. Thus one finds, for example, 10% more items, has more HP, etc. Again, later better perks unlocked.

- Crafting: You can and should improve its equipment with the objects that are found. They can certainly sell, but so far there is no problem carrying around a few things with it. The items get improved a new name and a new design ... that's very cool.
That was the most important, as you can see I've tried on the gameplay to take what to me is the most important.

Now one may ask: why this thing then gets 5 star ??

This is explained by the fact that you have to see when the game what it is. A title of a small, albeit ambitious developers, with a corresponding budget. The price is down still relatively low in my opinion, at least for the PC version.
What so delighted me, is that the game from the gameplay ago simply has no weaknesses. It's more difficult, but you get everything into their own hands. The game is a mix of Kingdoms of Amalur and The Witcher one could say with a few other elements. Certainly the game in graphics and story is not completely mature, but more was probably not possible. Developers have the fault of other games successfully eradicated (KOA was pretty easy (which is not so bad now), The Witcher quite confusing for my taste, and Dark Souls for example has a gruesome control).

Overall, I would like to see more titles like this because a "good" RPG with bes ********* control for me is not much value. Bound by Flame fun, and that's what matters.

*** UPDATE 02/06/2014 ***

Now I stand before the final battle, I would add two things.

- Crafting:
We can already see a preview and the effects that an upgrade of equipment brings, and also the cost of materials. This is nicely done, and you should use it. As already mentioned order also changes the appearance of the article. The available effects are becoming more diverse with increasing playing time.

- Difficulty:
There are two massive climbs, although I'm not sure when finally what it was: The first of the three "Concubines" was brutally hard. One fights for some reason against two of those things, plus a number of zombies ... pretty intense, but got a double-digit number of potions needed.
The final boss is even so an increase is even more extreme. While one makes itself hardly hurt you Hab after two attacks by him dead. Now invested ten attempts and once I had him on so 50% HP. Served never hats. Now this is absurd especially for the "normal" level of difficulty, because I have developed my Dodge skill As far as possible and also have a decent timing, what with other boss fights well has made me look. Have most of the quests done (all but 3 I think) and am level 25 ... which has then been annoyed.

Dialogs and companion:
Especially Mathras is quite entertaining in my opinion, because many things are well done. You also get some background information and there is also what the companion terms depending on the Quest Selection different endings as it seems.

*** UPDATE 05/06/2014 ***

Have the final battle now done!
In an estimated 30 start, which I've only after several attempts first set a pile of gold in potions and bolts or the need to produce. Also, I have selected other upgrades for my armor (Yes, you can exchange the upgrade, with the "old" then lost. Timing is the nuts and bolts, as well as tactics and decent damage is demanded.

I must say that the end was nothing special.

Endnote: 3.5 -> 4 stars. That gave away potential and the strong increase in difficulty at the final point do not allow better evaluation and with good will.
