Scope of supply: The scope of supply, were next to the camera, a battery, a battery charger, a power cord, the wrist strap and a quick guide (9 pages) with the first steps to take the camera. All important information is only available as downloads Canon, which I think is a shame, because not everywhere you can quickly access online to this information and not all have been doing a medium that allows to print any stored offline information sometimes just or display. It is missing in my opinion clearly a printed manual, you can have this anywhere, and on which one always and everywhere, on this, the manufacturer apparently "very old-fashioned" way, access has.
The first impression: With a little more than 300 grams, the small Canon is no lightweight. She is very good in the hand and all parts of their work are very high quality and well made. The controls are small but easy to reach. Very pleasant I feel the small thumb rest on the function keys on the back of the camera. The screen that can be folded up and down, acting in its holder very stable, the touchscreen speaks sensibly, but, like all displays in very bright lighting conditions problems, which often lead to blind shot "because you no of displayed parameters can detect more. Only the closure for the battery and memory card slot is not very stable (as unfortunately many manufacturers).
The menu: The menu navigation and -aufteilung I think is getting used to and not particularly intuitive. Even after prolonged use, I did not even feel they can make an assignment at once, where I can find what. Set during initial commissioning language, date and time, was more complicated than with my other cameras. The fact that, for example, the white balance, or the lighting conditions can not be changed in the settings, but in Program mode, something Search time cost. (A handy little manual would also in this case, as with many other issues that arise from the operation, have been very helpful).
Picture quality: On the whole I am satisfied with the pictures taken so far, although some weaknesses are identified for me from layman. The automatic mode is quite balanced, but just when frequent lighting conditions, for example in areas where artificial light and sunlight reigns, he reacts overwhelmed. Almost all the pictures that I have done in such light conditions, have become strong yellowish. Also, a correction in the program menu, where you can carry out different options to adapt the current lighting conditions is not always succeeded. Why especially in the setting of artificial light, the images are strong bluish, I can not understand until now because I expect so, that the camera in artificial light, which often seems somewhat bluish, corrective engages and accurately pick up this blue coloring, but maybe I was brought as Laie because only one flaw.
Since then, I often work in Program mode, I realize more and more that I know the automatic mode is not enough, because especially when setting the lighting conditions that you should absolutely by testing with a variety of motives, it appears that the camera big differences has to offer with color quality and brightness of the images.
Also a little problem I have (some shots) discovered during the sharpness that often subsides more or less at the edges. This can be seen, however unfortunately only when it is too late, namely in the presentation on PC. One notices very strong in some images where the focus of the picture is because the sharp comes across, which is of course a declining toward the edges sharpness emphasized even more. Nevertheless, I have noticed is that only in some shots so I'm a total image quality content, but can not imagine that photographers will not tolerate with high demands on their photos this weakness.
With the speed I'm happy, and although the response time is not suitable for instantaneous snapshots, so I know but much slower cameras.
The light intensity is one of the great advantages of small G7x that you can clearly see when shooting in low light conditions where other camera owners next to a already have to use the flash. So far, I'm really amazed at how well the images without a flash.
Battery: The battery has been criticized on several occasions. Compared with other cameras, he is actually a bit weak and I would not want to go without second battery on a longer photo tour. One charge takes 1 hr. 45 min.
I've turned the camera a small film which has a satisfactory impression when it comes to picture quality and sound made on me, but I will continue to use for films a camcorder that can take a whole specialized to the needs of the films.
In summary, the advantages and the weaknesses that I have found on this camera:
+ High-quality workmanship
+ Fits comfortably in your hand, all controls are within easy reach
+ Very bright
+ Reasonable speed
+ Satisfactory image quality
O habituation needy menu
- Battery life is not very high
Not always focus on the edges -
- No printed manual
My conclusion: I am satisfied with the PowerShot G7x. It scores with me especially with their intensity, their very good workmanship and delivers me, despite some getting used to operation, images in a quality sufficient for my needs. Nevertheless, I can well understand that professionals do not decide because of the partially conspicuous blur at the edges of this camera. A test whether you can live with those weaknesses, but you should definitely perform, because it is precisely in the image quality of each creates its own standards. From me 4 star for G7x.
