- Through the pen of Maria Duenas, I was held in suspense until the end. Indeed, it has created an original story, rich and compelling; with characters that we want to focus.
I think the author has transcribed the heavy atmosphere of the time. I imagine that in this climate of war and insecurity, it was difficult to navigate amid the supporters of the Axis and Allied ones.
In "The Spy in Tangier" we see the Second World War a new eye Spain, Morocco and Portugal did not have the same way of approaching problems known at the time.
- I wished that the section on espionage a little more consistent. Nevertheless, the plot is no less exciting. I loved "traveling" in these various countries, discover the Spanish and Moroccan context before the war, in the 1930s the six hundred pages of the book very easily devour, I was immediately on board.
- We are witnessing throughout the story to a real transformation of the main character. Sira initially frightened young woman and a naive strand; become a strong woman, independent and full of character. Early in the novel Sira is fairly remote and little affected by war (or so she did not realize all that this implies in its scale) but will eventually dive in with both feet and can no longer turn back.
- Among the secondary characters I had a crush on the Candelaria smuggler. It's an amazing character, with a lot of nerve and a philosophy of life rather special. Many other characters populate Sira of life, and they seduced me all: the freshness of Rosalinda, the kindness of Felix, the mysterious Marcus ...
- "The Spy in Tangier" is a novel that I recommend. I totally understand its success in other countries. Halfway between fiction and historical novel, everything is there to spend some quality time.
