Marc Dugain was, as he says, largely inspired by the true story of Ed Kemper, but taking some liberties ... Eg. Kemper only measures "only" 2.06 m & has an IQ of 136. So Gifted, but not THQI (Dugain portrayed his character by the name of Al Kenner, as having an IQ higher than Einstein, c that is to say between 155 & 160;)).
I did not want to read in detail the journey of Kemper (original) before reading this book, holding to keep the minds of any comparison between an atrocious reality & a novel. Also, throughout the novel, I wondered what Kenner could have done to end up in prison for life. Because after the first 2 murders, at the age of 15, the hero of Dugain is not incarcerated but placed in a psychiatric hospital where he remained locked up for 5 years. And during 3/4 of the novel, I was taken to believe that redemption was possible, another life permitted.
I can not tell you more, because the end is a shock, masterful :)
In summary, an excellent book, very well written, thought provoking calls & many questions about schizophrenia & sociopathy.
