Idiosyncratic, orthodox, aggressive - a masterpiece

Grand declaration of war is like no other album a proof that Mayhem always do exactly what they want. Fuck any expectations of gray matter oh so trver fans. Shit on what should be black metal.
This album has music virtually nothing to do with its predecessor, let alone with the awesome brutal rumbling on "Death Crush". Ingeniously, it is nonetheless. It's pretty twisted and not easily accessible - and yet I have occupied myself with any album before so long. It grabbed me from the start and that it also does still.
The songs are quite different from common Black Metal. By (very good) production all seems slightly sterile and artificial, but that is the atmosphere of the album anyway idiosyncratic conducive. The songs are relatively mechanically, change of military march to thrashing. There are built-voice passages and chanting. Aside from Maniac provides but again the full range of his perverse institution.
I think it brings with this album is not much to take each song apart. Let pictures speak - and simply expect anything, let yourself be surprised. And if you're too trve it - let it remain.
