- The sound of the TV (Samsung UE46ES6100) should come from the Soundbar
- The Blu-ray player (BDP2980 Philips) is also to pass the sound to the sound bar, the image normal to the TV
- An Internet radio (DNT IPdio Tune) should also output the sound from the Soundbar
- Blu-ray player and sound bar should be able to be networked
Connecting was ultimately lighter than expected but more difficult than hoped. Ahead I have enough HDMI cable with 1.4 standard concerned (for 3D and Audio Return Channel - "ARC"), plus a Toslink cable.
The plan was as follows:
- HDMI-Out the Soundbar to the HDMI ARC-IN of the TV (HDMI2)
- HDMI-Out of the Blu-Ray player to the HDMI In the Soundbar
- IP radio via Toslink to the soundbar
The realization and the result:
- The TV thanks to ARC sets the tone directly from the soundbar from ("TV ARC" appears instead of "D." on the Soundbar)
- The Blu-ray player outputs the image on the TV and the sound from the Soundbar is therefore "Looped"
- The IP-Radio remained silent over Toslink as "OPT" (optical) was no longer on the Soundbar available. The solution was to connect the radio using the supplied jack-RCA adapter to "AUX". So now comes the IP Radio sound from the Soundbar
- The Blu-ray player is the change to "HDMI" the Soundbar automatically activated and the picture changes to Philips player view
To design the Soundbar:
The Soundbar is held in a piano lacquer look, as well as the subwoofer. Both acts in the overall picture with other black components and consistent quality. The subwoofer looks like a closed cube, because the membrane is not directed to the front. It automatically connects via Wi-Fi once the Soundbar is activated. Fingerprints are good visible on the components, but the frequency of "Anfassens" at such stationary components is usually not really exist ;-)
For sound:
The subwoofer is a beschriben to "discreetly", especially in TV mode. Only when the subwoofer level to 4 or higher (6 is maximum) on, the pressure increases significantly. In Blu-ray operation of the subwoofer is clearly heard, there is enough a level in the range 3 to 4. The classic "I do not hear the bass, but I feel it" feeling still does not come on, a coherent "booming" creates the subwoofer but all. Voices come at any time over clear just for Blu-Rays this usually come in 2.1 systems without center too short. The sound is always clear and straight evaluates the TV sound noticeably on. Through "Smart Volume" the level adjusts depending on the source and it does not come to oversteer or there are no major differences in volume more.
The sound optimization profiles are noticeably different, but somehow all in my opinion not really satisfying. It is nice that you can adjust the latency in 25ms increments to compensate asynchronicities between picture and sound.
Conclusion:
The Soundbar E450 from Samsung is a relatively cheap, well-appointed opportunity to upgrade the TV sound, place the subwoofer anywhere in space and to provide a good home theater sound, especially if you can not provide 5.1 system.
