First things first: the picture quality is really excellent. Who, of course, as it constantly happens here at the Micro Four Thirds cameras, a full-frame DSLR using it as a comparison is, see it differently ;-)
The sensor on the GX7 is absolutely sufficient for the ambitious amateur photographer. I do not trust the camera when using the corresponding good lenses (eg Olympus 45mm, 75mm, 12mm or 25mm Panasonic 1.4) are perfectly willing to images on a professional level.
I like the colors, although not quite as good as with the Olympus OMD, but you can later on the computer so regulate almost effortlessly. The settings are right in the camera, at least for JPEG shooters, very versatile.
I could at various concerts where yes definitely prevail difficult lighting conditions, make the 45er and 75er dreamlike images of Olympus. Examples I send to like, please send me this message.
The operability of the GX7 is top notch. The menu is self-explanatory and control via the touchscreen really at its finest. The wireless function when you transfer the images while recording in the background on the phone or tablet is fun.
The WLAN function is set jerk twitching, here you do not have as many competitors, forever rumdoktern to the settings.
The ability to trigger the camera completely silent is awesome for me. Especially in quiet concerts or even in weddings which is a great feature. Those who also dedicates the street- or photojournalism, will appreciate this feature as well.
What initially confused me was why the lightning in silent mode does not work. Until I came out that the electronic shutter no flashing is possible, it took some time. Sometimes, of course, also helps the look at the manual ;-)
The autofocus is very fast and can be compared with that of the OMD-EM5. It is very accurate and the control via the display you can really focus very quickly and accurately.
Unfortunately, the stabilizer in the case can not have this quality. At least Panasonic has finally realized the issue, but here already, there is still a need for action. Compared to the OMD-EM5 or E-M1 I find the stability in the GX7 too weak. But it tried it out yourself out, everyone here has other personal preferences.
The new flip-up viewfinder I find it very successful. The resolution is sufficient and the color reproduction is pretty accurate in my opinion the result. Since I can not quite understand the here partly pre outdated critical voices.
Since I am not wearing glasses, I can not comment on the subject here already mentioned. Here probably helps only a practical test at the dealer (but then also please buy there).
The design is certainly a matter of taste, but in the whole retro trend Panasonic could not feel differently ... and also the camera is definitely better than the Plastikbomber previously offered by Panasonic.
The only criticism I think is the build quality. The control buttons on the back act extremely cheap, like a small compact clippers. The battery cover on the bottom is made of cheap plastic and wobbles easily. That does not fit such a camera and really annoys me something ...
The fact that the silver color on the housing at really very careful handling scratches gets and then including an ugly black spot appears, need not be. It does help to buy the black camera.
In itself a great camera. If Panasonic gets slightly better processing under control and also for the buttons and the battery cover better materials used a very strong buy recommendation. Thus, the GX7 has to say but for which at present still rather high price against competition from the Olympus-camp, which is certainly not easy, since the OMD-EM5 is now to have quite favorable.
