Blind Guardian is a band that evolved constantly from album to album into something positive. Although Fan argue about whether their "new" compositions really having the groundbreaking debut "Battalions of Fear" and its successor "Follow the Blind" can match, at least I think especially "Somewhere Far Beyond" from 1992 and six years younger than "Nightfall in Middle-Earth "for the clear masterpieces of the band. After the first two very speed metal oriented albums, the latest Krefeld found with "Somewhere Far Beyond" in power metal home. Your music has always been equipped with remarkable arrangements - epic melodies, choruses that were sung in chorus and lyrics that ate their way into the brain immediately. Typical power metal flat. Then, in 2002, but the band released an album that was perceived very differently by the fans. First, the cover has been severely criticized because it could supposedly compete in any way with the previous covers of the band. Personally, I find it really great and perfect for Album content appropriately. Well, tastes differ ... Musically, "A Night at the Opera" in any case all previous in the shadows. Not necessarily because of the complexity or ingenuity of the songs, but rather because of the enormous arrangements, to which the failure of the previous comparatively rather sparse. This album is a real chunk! It's packed with loud and strong epics, but who have a completely different effect on the listener, as older songs such as "The Bards Song" or "Time What is Time". "A Night at the Opera" slays the audience from almost a bit, but the band delivers here its been the least catchy songs. Although the songs are extremely powerful, but they do not stay nearly as hanging in the ear, as in previous albums. Blind Guardian show itself at this point in a new, almost progressive-inspired garb. Strong stuff for fans of the first hour. It is no wonder that this album highly polarized with the fans and critics.
"A Night at the Opera" is not an album that you should listen to if you feel like carefree power metal. The CD is quite strenuous, but offers at the same time an enormous number of facets and surprises. She lights not right the first time, the album you have to repeatedly hear and deal with the songs really. That's certainly not for everyone, I personally see "A Night at the Opera" still as an interesting and successful work of Krefeld.
