The opinions here differ widely: from supergut to abysmal. The very bad reviews are certainly justified in addition to technical shortcomings by a false anticipation. Gigaset contributes to this confusion when applying the device as an "alarm system" here in Amazon.
After all, "no" - it is not a professional alarm system - and is as such at Gigaset not advertised itself. Rather, "Gigaset element" a comfortable information system that actively and passively reflects quite reliably the status of an apartment or house and also reports faults such as power failure or offline. Typical applications are for example, the nightly check whether all the windows and doors are real or the information on the smart phone that the offspring has arrived at home, etc. This status information produce only the desired Big Brother features additional safety aspects or for can help. against the fast burglary marodiernder villains perfectly (especially when the system is useful and configured the neighbors play that may be mitinformiert).
Under no circumstances can the system but use the professional protection: mainly achieved absent an emergency power supply with SIM card function, a manipulation or sabotage protection, a more secure system control, glass break detectors, and especially independence from the network access and central Gigaset server.
etc. etc.
In return, there are planning functioning indoor solutions (among us for quite timid) in element a charming ease of use, an installation with no drilling, no contract or other consequential costs, surprisingly safe sensor functions and even the possibility. After the siren be hooked up since last update for all sensors.
"My" initial configuration consisted of the starter kit, the siren and more Door- and windows sensors. Commissioning was straightforward - but typical PC configuration knowledge should then have her. Internet and router are mandatory. Similarly, a smart phone and / or PC.
The technical details I'll give me at this point because they have already been often described. As annoying I found that not only the "base" (base) but also all the sensors initially demanded a firmware update. This just goes consecutively, lasts about 15 minutes and requires presence with regular promotions. If there are several components a morning is quickly rum.
Here are my additional experience:
From my perspective, the sensors "Window" and "Motion" currently the only meaningful.
Although the "Door Sensor" reports in connection with "Motion" a decent "Homecoming" and also reports a hard shake at the door as "alarm". But first, I think the distinction between "Homecoming" (only the door, then the movement in the corridor) and the simple motion detection and / or door opening unnecessary. Secondly, a burglar will rarely occur with brute force the door. He cracks also the castle's anyway not "Door" alarm. Then better like the Door, Windows or Motion Sensor to alert and / or the siren off (Holiday mode). Door also reports no tipping - zBvon Terassen- or balcony doors. And the wind, or the neighbor's child skin the door to a false alarm there.
The "Window sensor" works quite reliably. Also on patio doors clearly preferable to the Door Sensor (false positives, so tilting)
The "Motion Sensor" works perfectly and reliably - especially also because it ignores our cat and paused to avoid about 20 seconds mass messages after each location.
The "Siren (s)": loud, loud, loud :-) - 90 seconds - but scheduling (see therefore well-planned site) by simply pulling out of the socket possible.
Note for wireless fans: In addition to this system permanently potter even more DECT phones, divierse wireless switches, wireless TV, wireless headphones, wireless streaming services and a Sonos music system with its own network with me. And all this so far without mutual interference.
All in all, a system with a lot of potential, but not to be used (yet?) As a professional alarm system. The opportunity is to implement an additional protection against burglary with good planning but certainly present. Caution: The seemingly low price into perspective a bit if you really need before buying the sensors number (va "Window and Motion") determines realistic.
Why did I eventually but then returned the system:
There have been several major server failures at Gigaset - one of them I am currently 19.1. experienced live. That can always happen again, of course - everyone knows something like this. But while I realized that without the connection to the central Gigaset server on the Internet not only temporarily eliminated the Benachrichtungsmöglichkeiten (which I would have accepted), but also that adopted the complete system for this downtime: All sensors go "offline" and also the internal system is no longer accessible via WLAN / LAN. Worse, such a disturbance leaves tw. no longer functioning sensors that then need to be re-activated manually.
In plain language this means: A network or server failure leads immediately and afterwards once to disable the entire system including the internal control loops and alarm functions..
That must in my opinion definitely not be - at least, the system should be based on the fault itself and activate again and the internal control circuits in the house (siren, etc.) would have independent of the central server continues to remain active.
Too bad, the system has been a pleasure - but it must be urgently improved in terms of reliability.
The Gigaset makers can one feel sorry for: Similar to the first touch phone for the home (SL910) We also have a great, appealing concept, very smart idea, but it falls short in the pinnacle of reliability. Again, the product must appear only at the customer's mature ... but please do not at my expense. Since I do not exceed my return deadline me now remains only the return.
Other suggestions to Gigaset:
- An app for the Android tablet (though also goes through the Web page, but not so comfortable)
- In the app a button directly on the dash board: Arm / Disarm (or Holiday Mode On / Off)
- Switching to the Holiday mode (and vice versa) should be around 30 seconds with a time delay..
- Camera control and smoke detectors would be a nice addition
- The (re -) - Sign of assembled components is too uncomfortable.
