Original Review:
I bought the iPad this summer.
After the initial enthusiasm, the device has blossomed into a nice everyday companion. Mainly I use it to surf, (technical) books to read with iBooks and listen to music.
Unfortunately, I was the new iOS 4.x device spoiled the fun part. After I foolishly updated the device, I notice:
- IBooks has become slow. Very slowly. If anwähle a chapter in the table of contents of a book, it sometimes takes up to 20 seconds, until the text has started. Leaves is slow. Scroll contents jerky terrible. A great pity, because iBooks is almost wichtigeste app for me.
- What bothers many: the iPad has a hardware switch, with which you can turn off the automatic rotation shortly. Prima, to read books and PFDs in bed and to roll out the page. This is now no longer: Now this switch has a different meaning. Rotation although you can still turn, but much more complicated than before. Very annoying.
- The new iTunes has visual bugs in the albums view, there are some albums displayed gigantic.
There are other smaller deteriorations. Some of it is certainly subjective ..
That would be no problem, if I could just go back to the old iOS 3.xx. But that does not allow Apple. You can get a device, once updated, downgrade no longer on an older iOS version most recently. And at the exact spot rips my patience: Just imagine yourself, Microsoft would dictate to us what version of Windows we are playing on our PCs. And avoid to install Windows XP. The outcry would be great.
Conclusion: A nice device, but as with all Apple devices provides you look at the mercy of a manufacturer who drives a hard line. iTunes is a must. Downgrades do not exist. You do not like the new iOS? Your Bad Luck. Should not have to upgrade. On the Internet, reports of angry iPhone 3G users whose phones have become much more slowly with iOS 4.x and not back to the all accumulate.
Who with the Apple policy has no problem, can access courageously. The device is good. Only me the fun is gone - I feel patronized by Apple and would like to have my iPad as fast and user-friendly, as it was before the iOS upgrade.
So, love Apple fans: Now slap :-)!
