What at first sounds like a synthesizer, not the typical modern electronic instrument jazz music must be. On the CD "Mangustao" it's more of a Dan Bau. That's monochord, a one-stringed lute that is played with a bow. Home is the Dan Bau in Vietnam. And it's not the only instrument of Vietnam, which can be heard on the jazz CD of Huong Thanh and Nguyen Lê. The Dan Tranh (sechzehnsaitige zither), which can be heard Dan Nguyet (moon lute with two strings) and Vietnamese flutes. They harmonize with saxophone, trumpet, drums, hand drums Iran, the piano and the guitar course of Nguyen Lê in a gentle melancholy jazz. The music is also influenced by the singing of Huong Thanh. "Mangustao" contains 10 compositions of Nguyen Lê, are reminiscent of traditional songs from all over Vietnam. Almost all the songs sung by Houng Thanh with absolutely pure voice in the original language, send or receive 'greetings' from other nations of the world. There are musicians from Iran, from Africa, from America and Europe, who contribute their own musical instruments and harmonies with without wiping out the Vietnamese basic sound. Particularly impressive is done for the two songs that deal with the work in the rice field "Heave ho" and "South Delta Song". Huong Thanh is accompanied by the Caribbean "Barbes Faith Choir". In the song "The Mountain and the Source" is the song of the Vietnamese woman Houng Thanh and the North African Karim Ziad supplement to a seemingly effortless and peaceful dialogue. A beautiful music for dreaming. Best World Music!
