Legend (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Legend, the third parties. Editorial efforts to almost current and, moreover, already commercially available film music are usually not common, and for this reason alone, the now present (almost) full disclosure of Goldsmiths probably last masterpiece must be classified as exemplary. Despite the more than 20 minute new material has indeed existed for such a new edition is no real reason, but it will certainly appreciate the Goldsmith fans.
Maybe a few words about the presentation: So we wish it! The visually appealing booklet is not only extensive and costly, but also informative. We find an editorial note, an action-oriented brief analysis of the scores (which might be a little more on musical details could have entered), a production genesis, a general introduction to Goldsmiths Music, a biography of the composer, as well as information on the final cut of the American version and the there related alternative music of "Tangerine Dream". Better and more comprehensive can not be an accompanying documentation.
Thanks to the efforts of Silva Screen, we now have a sound optimized and carefully reconstructed version of the soundtrack. Goldsmiths as sovereign as innovative handling of electronic sounds that he connects in "Legend" with the sound of a large orchestra, experiencing in the new mixing a clear appreciation. Were the synthetic sounds in the first version by Hall and final cut and omnipresent in the narrow sense "synthetic", as they appear now immediate, fresh and embedded system. Only now Goldsmiths concept is clear: We can not hear well-established bands, but played live sounds of a new instrumental group in the orchestra. The traditional instruments are complemented, not clogged (although sometimes the balance is not quite right). The almost surreal worlds, pushes the boundaries of the Goldsmith doing so receive unexpected vitality, and it almost seems as if it were possible to him a way to have the know how to deal with the electronic soundscapes still no law in this way also of concert music.
The previously unreleased material is indeed consistently listenable, but not only offers new. With a total of more than 70 minutes running time, the CD but some lengths to which could have been avoided. After all, one would like to titles such as "Faerie Dance" (here the Riddle theme is exaggerated in a manner similar to the waltz in "The Dress Waltz") or the opulent apocalyptic scenario in "Darkness Fails" (thus the climax of the film is now musically documented ) not to miss.
There really are only two wishes: May Silva Screen bless us with further publications of this kind - and may Goldsmith again a score from Schlage "Legend" succeed.
