Customer Review

As a fan of the "old" Genesis I give here still full marks. Why? Because the guys that is fully achieved what they had set out to do. They wanted the big commercial success, and they made it with this album. After her artistic highlights in the 70's, they experienced their second spring here. But without completely betraying This is or bend. A certain musical "Verschlankungskur" already sat anno 1978 with the album "And Then There Were Three" and sat until 1991 he album "We Can not Dance" continues. The pieces were getting shorter, song-oriented, the melodies always catchy.
So, the boys walked deliberately toward straighter pop rock and charts and continue here now, where they 83-he stopped album. The recording, however, is clear, power fuller, stronger, more biting, better.
Firstly, we have here a very beautiful melodies. The boys were always. Even if some comes rather corny (Throwing it all away, In Too Deep), only becomes apparent on closer listening, the album is melodic and sophisticated.
Secondly, we have athmospheric, atmospheric pieces that slowly rolled moderately build toward climax (Tonight, Domino), and then to discharge like a thunderstorm.
Thirdly, happens in the background or in "the second row" a lot of what makes the superficial listening unnoticeable. There are the different sounds made by Mr Tony Banks plays, which he leaves in the background virtually "prance".
Finally, Mr. Collins was a gifted drummer who has managed to drum lyrical (Tonight), yet very energetic (Anything She Does). He was also reached tune-wise at its peak. Never again will he sing so high. On the following concert tour was already here and there heruntertransponiert (about Land of Confusion) and on the last tour 1992, he has - to my knowledge - sang no more of the older stuff in the original height.
With this album, so a balancing act has succeeded between commercial and catchy pop one hand, and crystal-clear, trend-setting production, sound carpets and great emotion on the other.
No, of course not but everyone needs the love I think this quality is delivered.
A small weakness might be that this album transported to a "very timely" fashion moods and very, very 80's comes as standard. But is not necessarily a weakness.
A great pity is that the ingenious pieces "Feeding the Fire" and the purely-instrumental "Do the Neurotic" are not landed on the album. These are perhaps the best pieces of the 80's Genesis!
