First things first - PICTURE QUALITY:
HD: both provide a very good picture. 10/10
SD: Again, both provide an acceptable image in the upscaling and there are certainly both the currently better devices in the market in this price category, which concerns upscaling. SWITCHING:

I have a family to also set a Technisat; Unfortunately, apparently almost no USB hard drives for the Technisat are suitable; I had a Freecom III bought (only later production date, more memory) - this hard drive has been rejected by the receiver. Technisat not sell mittleweile itself a "suitable" hard drive, but at twice the price of a hard drive of a brand manufacturer ... Currently works a Seagate Expansion 500GB ST905004EXD101-RK SEAGATE Expansion Portable External Hard Drive - 500 GB, black.
