Often the 14-42 will be offered in the kit with the "lesser" Olympus cameras. Often it is therefore underestimated. As the best kit lens on the market, it can even compete with the other manufacturers offer lenses for three times the price. The focal length range of 14-42mm (28-84mm on small picture) and the luminous intensity of 3.5-5.6 are normal for a Kitoptik. However, the image quality is superior to many lenses on the market. Although I 14-54 and 12-60 possess the light stronger, I have the 14-42 still bought as lightweight and compact alternative for the E-620 to do so. Thus, we are also in the second argument in favor of this objective. It's definitely the smallest and lightest standard zoom on the market. While it looks quite normal at the small E-620 does it work on the E-3 is already almost like a pancake. The size is based on the advantage of FT sensor. But the weight is achieved by the metal bayonet is replaced by plastic. At first I was therefore skeptical. But I've never had a problem with these, and I never heard that one lens was broken. So there is no disadvantage from the bayonet.
The lens is completely contrast AF capability. This means that works in Live View autofocus. In addition, the AF is the contrast AF fast enough. Since there has been no other manufacturer managed to make LiveView practical I have, however, no comparison.
My conclusion: Who needs a small and lightweight lens is operated by the 14-42 perfect. Not only the dimensions but also the mapping services are unique in this segment! One can not say to much, only: Buy, buy, buy!
