It's about: discovering floor, walls and ceiling
The control does not work as usual, mostly of point and click adventure games, just use the mouse, but Joe is classic (alternatively with the AWSD keys) steered with the arrow keys; Actions are performed using the mouse. After the first tentative steps as a cockroach the game also disclosed its probably the biggest attraction: the movement takes place not only boring on the ground, but also - what one is finally an insect? - On the walls, and even on the ceiling. Deflecting Joe on a wall, it moves vertically it up and so on, then tilts the entire space and the world seems to stand head, just not for Joe. The scene images, which can be explored in three dimensions as a cockroach, which makes them much larger and more complex than if you'd just run straight ahead.
Without a word, but not speechless!
The second feature, which can partly familiar from games like Machinarium or Botanicula, the relative "speechlessness" the actors. Joe receives instructions and tips never in the form of text, but always in small bubbles with images and symbols from which the player must close themselves first, what to do. Sign language and symbols instead of plain text: That alone can already be a really tough nut to crack. To understand the tasks and implement so is already a part of the puzzle, but the longer you move in Joes bizarre world, the easier the implementation of what is seen.
The graphic implementation is kept adorable and completely in comic style, the emphasis was placed on humor and quirky characters. With a playing time of 20 hours is "Journey of a Roach" not really short game, the price of just 20,00 Euro is but a bit too high, even if the game is fun and certainly offers some fresh ideas!
