5 years from "Love And Theft" Dylan finally brings a new album on the market. With "Love And Theft" it has spawned an over spilled praise late work of his career and has total of 5 years for taking the time for a worthy successor. "Modern Times" begins wherever "Love And Theft" ceases. An album of folk-rock and blues, maybe this time a little Country. A band that is well established and seemingly had a lot of fun on importing the songs. The sound is great. Fresh, modern and yet typical Dylan (in his later career phase of course). Nevertheless, it is so that I already had the feeling at "Love And Theft" that Dylan's songs are too long. This he confirmed on "Modern Times". 10 songs and 63 minutes then maybe a little too much of a good thing. While songs like "Thunder On The Mountain", "Spirit On The Water" or "Is not Talkin 'are wonderful songs, but they are all too long. For me, the strongest tracks on the album are "Beyond The Horizon", "Rollin And Tumblin" or "The Levee's Gonna Break" and despite your length just right. A really weak song does not exist in "Modern Times". This in no way !! The star deduction there "only" for the enormous length of the album. 50 minutes had also arrived. Still highly recommended and always a welcome guest in the CD player.
