I am a big fan in the full sense of the word, music for over 30 years. Suffice to say that I went through all stages: vinyl, of course, but also cassette tape, CD, DCC, MD, SACD, SHM-CD, DVD-Audio and dematerialized files (all formats). I think that nothing has escaped me.
I'm not nostalgic, just lover of good and big sound. And so far, nothing has equaled vinyl, except perhaps a few SACD, particularly in terms of precision or, as you have already read, dynamics. I say "rare" because often mastering and pressing most SACD was sloppy.
And that's a June 30 where, once again, lured by new media - audio bluray - I test. There I bought a few months without much conviction the Grrrr Stones Audio Bluray. Not bad, but not the expected slap. And there, towards a famous hard sale sign that distributes audio Bluray excluded up in September 2013. A tempting offer for members finally convinced me and I fall for Supertramp Breakfast in America, Stevie Wonder Songs in the key of life, Pierre Henry Mass for the present time, Serge Gainsbourg Histoire de Melody Nelson and Miles Davis Elevator to the Gallows.
My setup is correct without being elitist. A good Bluray player to an amplifier associated with the ad-hoc decoder. Quietly installed, I start playing, without much conviction. And then there is the shock. At the age of MP3 and others with low quality that we ended up getting used, I shudder again when listening to a disc. A real. In the flesh! Yet I know these securities. Almost by heart. I have them in different formats and probably did not need a new one. But I rediscovered. Delights me. Of delight as the dynamics reminds me of my good old vinyl ...
Several questions, however: the price, about 25 euros for the catalog of titles arch-recouped for decades. Mr. Universal really take us for idiots. Then the choice very limited for now. Finally, and perhaps most, he will continue this format? When Mr. Universal, if he took the urge him to send me some other cakes I'm interested.
Good listening!
