Masterpiece (seen as objective as possible).

After KOL with their supposedly youthful wild, carefree-inspiring (tell me to be the first two pictures of the band most to) Blue Rock works (YOUTH & YOUNG MANHOOD, AHA SHAKE HEARTBREAK) laid the foundation for a long-lasting career and her third album BECAUSE OF THE TIMES had proved their ambitions regarding atmospheric song sound design and experimentation, followed with only by the night an album that satisfied both commercial needs (without leaving the roots forget) and beyond perfected the now chosen path. Not for nothing the 4th studio album of quivering Blue Rocker is generally regarded as the highlight of today continued strong KOL albums chronology (even the novice come around sundown for me was not a disappointment, albeit somewhat less exciting than hitherto created ...).

Although remains the debut (YOUTH & YOUNG MANHOOD) probably for all time my personal KOL favorite, but I also have to admit that only by the night marks a point in the band's history, which will be in the distant future in mind ,
I see the reason for it mainly in the "mood width" of the album. "Type Sichen" KOL song (listen as the snotty "Sex On Fire") to the "monumental" -melancholischen alternative-pop song (I am thinking in particular of "Use Somebody", the television and the radio up and down ran) is here practically everything on offer!
The opening track "Closer" and the very pretty, rousing and well grooving "Notion" were the other two "superstars" on only by the night, which also (still) heard repeatedly on various radio and music TV channels (or to see) are ...

Amazing is the fact that it is with the present disc apparently effortlessly succeeded in keeping long-established fans entertained as to draw a new, broad audience ashore - the way the first time became acquainted with KOL from here.
But no wonder: only by the night sounds obvious after work, after a lot of work namely that was put into it. The composition of the individual numbers is very sophisticated, it was clear (or rather hear) great emphasis on moods, increases and nuances in the sound. Finally, the album is very consistent as a concept album and "harmony" have become ...

Excited you may now be on the continuation of the series. With the come around sundown previously mentioned a pleasing further step was already done once - of course without the "oversized" direct predecessor (this here just) to be able to continue seamlessly. Was yes - hand on heart - not necessarily to be expected ...

Conclusion: only by the night marked a very, very important point in the chronology of not too old KOL history. That much of what will create the band still (of which I'm now hopeful of times) is accurately measured because it is probably evidence enough, in my opinion. Of course: such a "milestone" also has its bad sides. Too fast for example, one might be inclined to forget what a great plates KOL else have made. Ehrlich: Of the 5 previously released studio works has - even after a long time (objective seen so) - still turns out not a single as total failure. And after all: 5 successful (of course taste tolerance included) albums in a row - that's saying something!

Only by the night is of course in any KOL collection. It is also recommended as an initial purchase of newly interested. Even people who should not so much like the early phase of the band, can actually calmed resort to this disc - a Kommerzpopalbum with bluesrockigem draft, if you will ... And that is entirely without irony or the like meant seriously so!
