Now specifically to the disc:
Sound: Even the MP3 album properly. This is one in 2014 may also be expected. Almost throughout the act "soundscapes" very plastic, Gilmour Strat very warm - total (objectively) a very pleasant easy listening. The mix is probably due to more of today's audience. The vote is not as detailed and sophisticated as once on TDSOTM.
The rest: The best quickly forgotten. As mentioned multiple times the music is good, at best, to relax - but only for people who can not imagine anything under the name Pink Floyd and do not know their true good works. All others I would strongly advise against it.
What bothers me about this record eigendlich?
Basically you will find here a collection of musical ideas that were never developed let alone realized. The individual pieces are hard to distinguish from one another, which is why it is hardly worthwhile to individual pieces to respond. There is nothing einprägendes what sticks longer in any way. Everything sounds somewhere at the same. Almost every passage is predictable. Musical variations: None. Rhythmically there nothing fancy. The music gurgles just to himself. Deeper lyrics you look for in vain (or texts in general - it is almost a pure instrumental album). Where is the cynicism and English humor gone? The texts could also be very snappy or even thought-provoking? Nothing of the sort.
From time to time it is meant to be heard half-hearted quotes old PF-plates. Active listening is unfortunately real ordeal. In short, very boring.
Pink Floyd could I think of the creativity ago but never quite measure with Genesis, Yes and other prog consorts the (good) boards have really triggered me goosebumps. Especially Gilmour guitar solos went down like oil. But what was delivered here basically nothing more than a clever exploitation of a once great concept of music history: Pink Floyd!
Conclusion: Apart from the name, this disc has nothing in common with Pink Floyd. I had dearly hoped that Gilmour and Mason would make it at least once a milestone rauszubringen to Wright and even to put Syd Barrett a more dignified monument. Which was already considered second with "Shine On You Crazy Diamond". The many positive reviews that were also a reason for my purchase, I can not understand for the life.
Why only 2 stars: Admit there is musically far worse. But the fuss was done to this album is what this came out everything, just do not do justice. I counted here by the standards that had once set himself the band. I think in terms of the old albums, the story is written, this review is quite justified.
To all newbies PF: power to steer clear of this album. Get your dear "The Dark Side of the Moon", "Wish you were here", "Meddle", "Atom Heart Mother", "Animals" and perhaps even "The Wall". In my opinion, this one is not a must-have.
I do not understand a lot of reviews that describe this record as a progressive rock. For me, it is rather an easy rock flavored Ambient project. I had then only once "Genesis - Foxtrot" at the tone arm to get me to this disappointment, to become conscious again what is real and what creativity means Prog.
Who has a Fable for very quiet ambient sounds, can be accessed like. Besides curiosity, however, I see no other reason to buy the disc. Ultimately, you have done here with the name one last time right now. A real sense I can not see in this compilation of relatively unimaginative sound carpets. Earlier, the albums were still closed beautiful, I miss something here. Sorry, Gilmour and Mason. But the good old days is unfortunately over and I could not even experience live as '91 vintage.
Ultimately, I have yet decided yet for two stars. Reason: One can hear through at least good with half an ear, without which it is annoying. Is not self-evident even in many highly acclaimed works. The relatively pleasant soundscape (which still does not have PF bonds also comes) safeguard the device from the data Nirvana.
