I bought this instrument last week at the hardware store, and a few times the moisture of firewood so measured. After about 15 measurements then broke the plastic plate in which the probes are inserted so that a tip virtually plunged into the housing, so had no anchor, allowing the device was virtually unusable. Had then the housing screwed me and viewed the construction - that had to break sooner or later, it is clear! The tips are in a very thin plastic plate (I can not understand how one can build so. The tips must already be a bit pressed into the material to be measured in order to get proper contact and a correct measurement result (create between mild and well press are due to the different contact resistance by several percentage points for wood). Especially for dry hardwood has since been some resistance. In the manual is only that one should the spikes press into the material to be measured. Of course I have not tried to completely submerge, but wanted to push at least the conical tip end. I had assumed that tips were embedded in a larger plastic block, which is well connected to the case, or a comparable, robust construction. But not a thin plastic plate, which is simply plugged (took pictures of them, I could provide).
Can owners of the appliance only guess either really very gently apply the measuring tips (can act especially no lateral forces) and if the guarantee / warranty has already expired or is possibly does not care, the housing in the upper part, for example, with hot glue eject or pour with resin to stabilize the plate with tips. My defective device I can return easily to happiness at the hardware store.
Until the tip broke away, I had otherwise a very good impression. The display is large and illuminated, the unit is small and portable, it comes with a protective cover and wrist strap, the protective cap of the tips is just folded, not decreased, so that it can not be lost. Only that it has to be operated with relatively expensive button cells, I feel as a shortcoming. Because it was as I said broken after 4 days, I also did not get to see how long does a set of batteries. To check a meter compared to the readings, I had not, but they seemed quite plausible to me.
