This novel is a detective novel because there is murder (s) and investigation. But all this is only a pretext. Rather we discover the presence of the past and the clash between the same past that refuses to disappear and a present that does not have much to offer. Nostalgic novel haunted by the ghosts of Seville as well as by those heroes. Roman traditionalist, too, where we see the power and legitimacy of venerable institutions (aristocracy, Catholic Church) overawe new rich and pushy.
