Revolutions Per Minute & Hi-Tek (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Proud ten years ago, the last Reflection Eternal album, now Hi-Tek and Talib Kweli are united by various solo projects back to us with "Revolutions Per Minute" a sequel to their classic "Train Of Thought" from 2000 to present. Now the question arises as to whether the album is really as revolutionary as its title promises. There was support for it exclusively in lyrical form, as Hi-Tek, of course took over the entire production. Also on board are next to Talib's eternal companions Res and Mos Def also Texas veteran Bun B, pop star Estelle or Jay-Z's new discovery J. Cole. Should therefore be made for anticipation, we now check the content of "Revolutions Per Minute".

A relatively detailed intro explains the listener briefly, what is at stake in this plate, then lay Reflection Eternal with track number 2, "City Playgrounds" really going on. One should not expect a fiery debut here, but it's relaxed to the point. A fairly unspectacular piece out of his hands Hi-Teks accompanied word acrobat Kweli, who as to his last works no effort to pull the listener into his spell, a pity that the background music comes somewhat powerless. A significantly fresher leaves since "Back Again", ensure its rhythmic drums for dynamics, Talib shows that he also has time to rap a little faster no problems to loosen a very melodic and at the same smoother chorus, sung by Res, for the necessary change in order not to leave the track being boring. Criticism of government and public health provides us with Talib in collaboration with Bun B on "Strangers (Paranoid)". The recent collaborations between the two were indeed rather cheerful ("Country Cousins", "Real Women"), but with this track, they show that a somewhat more serious issues can be wonderfully edited together. Hi-Tek delivers to an energy-rich, but also dark piece that receives additional power in the background by its horns, which the same message a little bit better to take them over. "Got Work" wummert mysteriously therefore, Snaps and an artificial pipes, in combination with Kweli's rape for a great atmosphere and an overall picture, the one with eyes closed enjoying the best chair.

Estelle is the guest part on "Midnight Hour". As you can already think it's something more pop to the point, but that does absolutely nothing. The content is just a flirtation, accordingly is also the cheerful sound of the song. Flott and tidy with blues influence, but also a pretty freaky now and then beat it comes down to business here, so right from the start is taken care of in a good mood - a perfect title for the summer. Where it still went to the bright side of life here, so devoted to "lifting off" a negative issue: drugs. The instrumental is indeed pleasant soulful, yet you can feel with Kweli on the mic, the inhibitory effect of intoxicants. Not only the implementation is here more than succeeded, also that the piece is a little food for thought really top. What is the "Ballad Of Black Gold", can probably already guess the name of each. Oil, its sponsors, and of course including suffering population The focus here is, once again so wonderfully performed by Talib Kweli and musical support from Hi-Tek that it packs a and not let go, so must it be in a large MC. Much speaks in "Revolutions Per Minute" that it is a true masterpiece, but also tarnishes one or the other a little less rousing song like "In The Red", "Long Hot Summer" and "So Good" the overall picture of plate. Enough good material there yet. An example would be the slightly dreamy "Just Begun" (feat. Jay Electronica, Mos Def & J. Cole), representing the laid back mood of the album perfectly, but also as the escapees appropriate to dance "Get Loose" (feat. Chester French) round off a thoroughly successful work.

In a business in which it is increasingly about the material things of life, it is very refreshing to put such a panel as "Revolutions Per Minute" in the player, at that if it is supported by a major label like Warner Bros.. An actual revolution or groundbreaking new music is to be found here, although not, for an album that was received with love and understanding and thus should please any fan of Conscious Rap.
