The overall plot of the story is not full of action, but I think it's a lot of important things in this third volume. We find Anya, Kyle and Aidan toward the Seattle confrontation with Queen Atara. They find themselves up against the wall, and Anya has no choice but to go with her mother to see what she wants him.
The author signs a novel full of emotions both positive (which give a smile) or negative (which profoundly affect). Indeed, J.Arden focused on the psychology of the characters and their relationships (whether romantic or friendly).
The Egyptian mythology and fantastic introduction by the author is even more momentum. It enriches the universe absolutely taking that J.Arden implemented. I never tire of different trips in the past and the god Seth attempts to corrupt the heart of Anya.
At the main characters, I have a real crush on Kyle and Anya. Their particular form an interesting dynamic duo, and the third volume is an opportunity for them to discover.
Once again, the events will push Anya to seek emotional resources deep within herself to escape. It fully accepts the two sides of his nature, but the past will come back to him in the head, like a boomerang. This sadness that surrounds the character Anya does not position as a victim, but rather shows us that it is still a strong and determined young woman. Moreover, we still very funny passages in the novel. Between the lines of mind Anya, his verbal jousting with enemy (s), his character sometimes carried away and hothead ... I did not have time to get bored and I often smiled.
As for Kyle, I immediately fell in love with this beautiful wolf in the first volume, and my attachment to this character only increased in each of his appearances. In addition to its exceptional physical (we will not hide the fact anyway!) It has a personality ... really crisp! Kyle is full of charm, I love his stubborn side, lupine its part fully assumed and attachment he feels for Anya.
Regarding the secondary characters, I had good surprises.
If Aidan had charmed me a little in the first volume, all seduction is gone. Things were a little initiated in the second volume, where I was exhausted its sufficiency. The events that occur in this third book have convinced me that it was not such a good Sentinel that! However, I'm sure the author full of surprises about her.
Caleb vampire I liked more in each of his appearances. We feel that it is a character torn between his attachment to Anya and his obedience to the queen Atara and the clan of Reus. Can not wait to return later in the saga.
With an alternating narration with Morgane (daughter of Isis, protected Aidan), we keep news of two packs of San Francisco. I enjoyed the fact that we came out a little head Anya to discover the world of "Sentinels of the shadow" from another angle. If I had a little trouble with Morgan at first, I must admit that I ended up enjoying it. This is a young woman a little dippy, very outgoing, but has a very good background and a nice personality.
It was a real pleasure to see the pen of J.Arden. It is still as rich, and I relished all its metaphors, turns of phrase and wit. There is a real work on the characters, and I was blown away by the narrative with three voices we offer the author.
In conclusion, "The chains of the past" is a third book at the height of his predecessors, although it is different. I have not seen these past 430 pages and I want more!
