1930 Upper Silesia, three children are aviation enthusiasts. Werner and the blonde Hanna and Max are German, Polish and Jewish. 1933 memory loss, and Hanna Werner will have to engage in Hitlerjüngend to learn to fly gliders. Horrified, Max explains that Nazism is not really of Scouting and Hitler nothing Baden-Powell.
1935 Max emigrated to the United States with his father at an uncle to escape Nazism and also learn to fly.
The war will arrange to reunite in Germany, but in a violent manner.
This first volume of Dent D'Ours (compared to the heroes of talisman) is a very successful album. The drawings are sublime planes, reminiscent of Romain Hugault or Olivier Dauger (Heaven In Ruins), fans of Vought F4U Corsair will feast. The children of the characters are very believable (beautiful pencil stroke Alain Henriet), as the German aviation industry reborn early Nazism.
Very warm and intelligently contrasting colors are beautiful. Yann scenario is very well put together with a very thorough documentation on time. Many flashbacks are (very beautiful scenes of US aircraft carrier attack) but does not interfere with the flow of the narrative, quite the contrary.
A great surprise in these times of aeronautical plethora of comics rather poor (I would have appreciated the "Wunderwaffen" series with such a graphics).
Late in the album, we are treated to some beautiful penciled children and a historical appendix on the time and the achievement of comics.
