The eighties may have remained the Popchronisten than a decade of synth-pop and stadium rock in memory - but they were also the decade of the Dire Straits. Since 1978 the band around Mark Knopfler coined the contemporary guitar rock, which was revived mainly by two elements: Knopfler huskily and in particular its distinctive guitar work. The album "Brothers in Arms" distinguished himself as an obstetrician of the new CD format and the video for "Money for Nothing" turned into a "self-fulfilling prophecy". Later he disbanded Dire Straits and klampfte with his friend Chet Atkins as the Notting Hillbillies around. Since 1996, Knopfler's solo move, his album "Sailing To Philadelphia" is his second stroke. The trademarks that have marked the Dire Straits, are also reflected here. If you have even expected a touch of innovation, will not be happy with this album. For music everything is so said the chronicler duty so requires, however, to mention who on his CD welcomes the maestro everything and play can: Van Morrison, James Taylor, Chris Difford and Glenn Tillbrook (Squeeze) - all allies in his age group.
