Prayers & Observations (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Already with their debut "Glitter Card" has thrown into the jazz scene Torun Eriksen great calm waves. Like its Nordic Kolleginnnen it blurs the boundaries between playing jazz, pop, singer / songwriter and ennobles everything with its clear and soulful voice.

In "Prayers And Observations" she expands her range again and walk a few steps away from the barren airy sound of the first album. With electric piano, flute and vocal warm layers seems a warm analog atmosphere in the songs, while the melodies come along less catchy and labyrinthine. Thus, "My Boys" begrudge a groovy intermediate part with verzwirbelten drums and brass riffs, "Way To Go" is driven by a laid back groove and opens into a black chorus. From worn ballads ("The Sky From Where I Live") to modern beats ("Stories") shows Eriksen that it can fill diverse tempos and moods with life.

The production is significantly anspringe Direction and energy, including the wider range of instruments involved contribute. Apparently, the much-vaunted blackness of voice has helped to emphasize this aspect in music. So an album has been created that is so intense, warm and round, that one probably takes the attribute "Nordic" as a last resort to mind.
