Now a lot is said about the direction of the album, but not about the quality of implementation. How Samy suggests as a singer? Are the many musical influences matched homogeneous each other? No one wishes for maybe the "old Samy" back? The clearest possible answers to these questions are probably, is one towards the sunny and shady sides of the album. What to "Dis where I Herkomm" is not well done?
First, despite the content of many thoughtful, surprising and personal lines to Samy Deluxe misappropriates the one time or another in tone or resorts to too banal statements. One example is the controversial line: "And we have no national pride / And all that just because Adolf / Yes, great, nice shit, the guy was but actually an Austrian [...]". For this Statement of Hamburger was violently attacked. Well, who considered Samy's extensive social commitment, the entire content of the plate and the context rather ironic tone sloppy, can not really get the wrong idea. Nevertheless, these lines are unfortunately expressed misleading and make the burdensome past Germany's far too much at the position Hitler firmly. Although Hitler without the story might never have occurred so, the crucial element was anyway the consent that he learned from the population. No question, you should not take this statement literally or intentionally misunderstand, but here Samy Deluxe makes in favor of a successful Reims content too many concessions. But why make the album generally bad, but would be completely covered. Even the song "Dis where I Herkomm" apart from this line one of the highlights of the album. Much disturbing, however, the trips are in extremely shallow water content as in "We are not children anymore," where Samy nothing but banal phrases secretes. Also "silent" - a musical very good song - suffers its irrelevance. Samy wants to practice social criticism, but the bottom line of the track, you'll "kept silent" computer and television from above, but is highly questionable: after all, it's made any clear whether he was informed by FAZ or leaves sprinkle of RTL II.
Second, musical variety and a healthy mix of genres are to be something positive, but on "Dis where I Herkomm" suffers the homogeneity of the album at times less. Chooses an established artist for years, suddenly to conquer a new genre - okay. He mixes even more styles of music on one album - also fine. But if even being experimented within a song relatively indiscriminately with different styles of music, it can be problematic, especially if you do not speak all styles perfectly. Samy Deluxe is unquestionably one of the best if not the best rapper in Germany. But if you can suddenly also feed reggae or pop elements, you can not beat the Hip "layering" hop scheme and hope for the same success. A Peter Fox on "Stadtaffe", which can also be assigned to the pop and reggae, among other things, uses a completely different, image-rich and metaphorical language as a rapper, also because sung rap lyrics just sound bad. So hot is Samy's flow during rapping, so awkward sounding occasionally his trips to other genres, but this does not change the general accuracy, time to venture into other realms.
Third, the Auto-Tune effect. Even on "TNT" with Dynamite Deluxe turned this stylistic device is not a true asset even if there is nothing against an occasional use. But the fact that a Kanye West now makes use of it, freed the Auto-Tune effect not approve of his techno Image. Deliberately used as on the strong song "Superhero", he can work. But you do not pave over the entire album and thus dilute the already bold Hip Hop / Pop / Reggae Mix by another influence.
Why the album is good, despite the mentioned three main criticisms? Because at the same time the weakness of the style mixing is an appeal of this versatile album and some personal and lyrically strong tracks protrude (eg "Father's Day", "superhero", "music get through the day to come"). Because Samy Deluxe has, unlike many other rappers to say something and no Battle tracks or Disses needed more to prove yourself. And last but not least because the album exudes a positive, pleasant summery mood. "Dis where I Herkomm" is probably most experimental and daring album of the Hamburg rapper, though not necessarily the best. And it underlines, despite some weaknesses Samy Deluxe 'unique position in the German Hip Hop scene and beyond.
