In the several decades of career Angelique Kidjos a whole lot of great songs came together. On the new album they will present a retrospective of this extensive back catalog, a personal Best Of, recorded with the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra. MALAIKA is, Kelele, NAIMA and FIFA, a total of eleven songs. In three words: world music meets classical. By opulent orchestral accompaniment under discreet Percussion- and guitar support show the songs whole new sides and act as if a Hollywood soundtrack accompany life and work Kidjos whose powerful voice seems to have hardly changed over the many years. This is complex and sounds beautiful, and yet this album is hard on a problem that collaborations of this kind usually have: the attempt to unite two very different musical worlds succeed, sometimes better and sometimes worse. Often enough, the temperament Kidjos will be thwarted by the orchestra, even in slow numbers as NAIMA. A tanker is now not as agile as a barge. This works best with the synthesis nor SAMBA PA TI and Kelele, in other songs like Ominira and Nanae music singer and orchestra sometimes even at cross purposes. Conclusion: Interesting - but the originals are harmonious!
