Design / Form Factor:
Both systems are designed differently, but on their particular type very chic and high quality. However, Philips has the more practical format, because you can make it to the main unit a little (in our case a small flat screen TV). The Sony system takes up about as much space, but is more broad than deep, through the curved surface of the space is practically lost.

Equipment / function:
By and large, almost identical, with the Sony system is somewhat modern equipment. Sony builds WLAN directly, at Philips is a USB dongle in. This is of course the not so nice solution, but not a real problem. Sony scores with 2 additional HDMI inputs, which sadly lacking at Philips. Both devices is an iPod dock, I do not need. Sony enables 2D to 3D conversion, I do not need too.

Fan / noise level:
Oh yes, the fan. From the Samsung plant's the worst usual I was expecting better from Sony - and was disappointed. The fan is unfortunately to hear clearly even in about 3 feet away. For movies or soft music not nice. And then came to the Philips. I thought the fan is broken because one hears nothing practically. It's a dream. So it goes but, even in small plants. Bravo, Philips!

Sound:
Both plants do not sound bad for its size and price. No comparison to a full-blown home theater system, of course. The Sony-front speakers are chic, but quite shallow and with very flat speakers I always have a bad feeling. In fact, I think they sound a bit tinny. Strangely, the design is (about 40 cm high), although only the top half is fitted. This led us to promptly Aufstellproblemen the shelf and brings sound probably nothing. By contrast, the Philips-front speakers have a greater overall depth and sound in the mid and high range a bit more pleasing.
The subwoofer does however at Sony a better impression, mainly relates to what processing and optics. The Philips subwoofer gives a rather cheap impression, sounds basically but not bad.
Overall, the sound at the Philips something round and balanced.

Operation, detailed functions Network / Streaming:
Sony The screen menu has more clearly and logically arranged. At Philips, everything is shown in App or tile format, so pretty disorganized. There are also at Philips in radio mode no display and you can not switch to the radio mode, but only on the source function from the Home menu. Even something funny. In both device I would have liked, without turning on your TV to listen to Internet radio, but unfortunately there is no shortcut on the remote control. Sony launches the popular vTuner list, Philips "TuneIn". Other internet features are quite different and useless in each individual case to awesome.
When streaming PHLIPS has seemingly better format support. Especially with DivX support Sony only newer versions (from about 2008). But I still have some things from previous years that the Sony has unfortunately rejected, but worked at Philips. HD footage of two different digital cameras could unfortunately be played back on any of these annexes.
Sony 4 stars / Philips 4 stars
Conclusion: Both devices are generally recommended. Philips shines with a virtually non-existent fan noise. In addition, the Philips system could play more video formats from my DLNA server and has mE better front speakers. If all that is not so important and especially the louder fan endures, can safely buy the Sony-conditioning and benefits from a little more pleasant to use.
