Customer Review

North Carolina was more no man's land when it comes to rap before Moses Barrett III aka Petey Pablo in 2001 with its "Raise Up" an anthem for the southern state brought out that almost made in overnight for Local Hero and Star of Down South Rap. His debut album "Diary Of A Sinner: 1st Entry" was followed by the single and surprised me frankly something because Petey shows the panel that he has a lot more on it than party-compatible songs. Petey processed much more personal, not forgetting that the amusing side does not come too short. On Features has been almost completely dispensed with, which is a bit unusual for the present time, however, works well. Produced the beats by Timbaland, Chucky Madness, Huck-A-Buck, Buddah & Shamello or Petey himself what it promises quite a varied mix.

After the intro raises the MC from Greenville, NC with "Petey Pablo" personally before the listener what happens over a fast thumping beat, garnished with mystical and sinister elements in the background. During the verses Petey shows times, with what a high tempo he can rap, which is nevertheless very considerable, the hook on the other hand he performs rather slow with his scratchy Organ. This is followed by the well-known single "Raise Up" for which Timbaland handed in a class production. Driving basslines and a few violins pushing Petey to peak performance, because his style fits faster and more aggressive here perfectly to also be the number is perfect for club or simply to sing along. In the middle of the album, there is also an All Cities Remix to the lyrical but only differs from the original and Petey here the complete USA representet, rather than just his home.

Even "I" comes from the hands of Timbaland, which is also equal yet represented on the mic. About a brisk and cheerful beat the two perform accordingly, particularly the short part of Timbo is quite funny. The last beat of the heavyweight of Virginia can be found with "I Told Y'all" before. It is one of the best tracks of the plate. Thanks to a deep and rhythmic bass comes a harder mood, what Petey with his raspy voice made as seem for and so captivates the Speaker. Unfortunately follows from here is a little weakness, the same comprises several tracks. First would be "Did not I", which tempts with boring beat and rap fast for skipping. "La Di Da Da Da" is only slightly better, which is positive, but it can really convince not this song. That would be rather amusing at the "fun room" of the case. It goes on with worn Synhtesizer effects, fleets and Claps simple rhythm and with Petey on micro the perfect mood-maker.

Too bad that this upward trend of the surprisingly bad "Y'all Is not Ready (Come On)" and "Do Dat" is already nullified, but in times of Tracklist internally generated, this should be a rather minor problem, because from here it is now steadily uphill. Although the rocking "Live Debaco" is still slightly awkward, therefore, but Petey's varied flow over the electric guitar accompaniment can already hear, especially his aggressive eingerappter chorus that gets more power out of a raging crowd, tells me. "919" would be a renewed allegiance to North Carolina, which is a rather dark, but also quite melodic piece happens. The Rhymes come again very committed and snappy, the simple refrain, in which also a crowd with engaging, enticed to join.

One of my favorite songs can be found with "Fool For Love". Here you can experience Petey Pablo with a difference, namely casual and not too serious. The instrumental consists of a relaxing, very smoothen and deep bass which misleads equal to recline. Since still being added strings, which give the whole emotion and give Petey's partly sung idea the finishing touches. The end of this plate designed to more personal and profound, which is initiated with the very beautiful "Test Of My Faith". Unfortunately Petey talks here during the verses, the better his sung hook that is a really close together with the soulful musical accompaniment. After almost sad "Truth About Me" can be reached with the title song "Diary Of A Sinner" the end and at the same time one of the best songs. Quiet acoustic guitar sounds accompany Petey's almost elegant rapped verses, but highlight is feature Tre Williams, lying a great chorus.

Although "Diary Of A Sinner: 1st Entry" some violent Patzer can not hide, it is nevertheless a good album in which to me the majority of the songs really like for me. One would have the songs may be able to mix some, but even so, therefore with faster first half and quieter second, the disc makes a lot of fun. Slightly more features might have been not bad, but as you get up more Petey Pablo, which has indeed changed a lot on the successor. If you like down South and want to give a country boy like Petey Pablo a chance will certainly be well served here, fans of the man from North Carolina anyway.
