In addition to the Stones and the Beatles no other band has so much created the life soundtracks of so many people and generations. On the history and significance of Floyd's works need not be discussed further here. It was difficult from the start constellation of the band, a two-headed basically creative machine that needed their internal struggles and rivalries to give birth to this highly intellectual and tinkered with incredible pedantry milestones of music history.
With the departure of Waters then was final. The residual Floyds - resp. Gilmour - produced at best still nice elevator music. Virtuoso played, yes, but ultimately only arbitrary, interchangeable pathos Kitsch.
The bartering of the band name to VW and the resulting deconstruction of a myth was another confession to the mass appeal and the beginning of the end of the style-defining band. And it revealed the bargain Gilmour's insensitivity and lack of respect for him yes mitkreierten music legend.
And this - hopefully really last - "Pink Floyd" album fits seamlessly in Gilmour's musical involution. Too bad, but I expected nothing else.
