Great penultimate album of the legendary Pink Floyd

The Division Bell (Audio CD)

Customer Review

"The Devision Bell" is the second album by Pink Floyd after Roger Waters had left the band out. While "a momentary lapse of reason" was actually written almost entirely by David Gilmour, so could / could here especially Rick Wright and Nick Mason participate again more. The album sounds modern and at the same time clearly after Floyd. As already on the predecessor are some catchy songs and sometimes even radio friendly and the band does not invent a new one, but the Devision Bell has become simply great record with good songs. The album has a theme which can be found again and again in the texts, namely communication and communication disorders.

The musicians make this a really good job: David Gilmour is simply an excellent guitarist and plays again some great solos. It's just always a pleasure to listen to the man, and his voice is good and fits perfectly to the songs again. Rick Wright is one with his keyboard also easy to band and also plays nice and relaxed. And he was allowed to sing at last again. Nick Mason is still not a very big Technicker on drums, but he also plays well and did not have to be replaced in part as to the two predecessors. He is also the only one of Pink Floyd musician who can be heard on all the band's albums and to me he's just likable.

"Cluster One" (5:58) is a lovely, relaxed instrumental, in which guitar and piano alternate wonderful. An atmospheric piece that sounds easy to Pink Floyd and confident right from the start.

"What Do You Want From Me" (4:22) is then slightly bluesy and troubled. The title has great melodies, great chorus and a great guitar to offer. I like very much

"Poles Apart" (7:05) is as an acoustic ballad dan already one of my favorites on the album. Zwischendrinne has a psychedelic part to provide the title, can hear in the various noises. Then it goes a bit faster on and at the end there is again a great guitar solo.

"Marooned" (5:28) is the next instrumental and is first similar to the first. Guitar and keyboard super and at the end there is also still Nick's drums to. Also very relaxed.

"A Great Day For Freedom" (4:19) is then a piano ballad that I liked. Gets under your skin and has very beautiful melodies, however, for some fans a little too cheesy and radio friendly.

"Wearing The Inside Out" (5:47) is the song on the last we hear Rick Wright on vocals and you look forward to as Floyd fan just about his voice. The title is typical of Wright, quiet, slightly melancholy and simply beautiful.

"Take It Back" (6:12) is really such a radio song and is actually not bad at all. The Meodie is good, but somehow I find the rest of the album better, but everyone can decide for themselves.

"Coming Back To Life" (6:12) begins quietly with a wonderful acoustic guitar until it is brisk again. Also another great piece, was also later played by the Australia Pink Floyd Show.

"Keep Talkin '" (6:11) contains again the central theme of the album and is rocky with beautiful Soul Choir and a great keyboard. Between Inside we hear the computer voice of the physicist Stephen Hawking on the importance of language.

"Lost For Words" (5:15) is an acoustic song again. Has a good melody that really is very catchy, but is not the really big firecracker become ..

"High Hopes" (8:32) is then as the longest song on the album, the highlight and also one of the best songs of Pink Floyd at all. Here many sound effects from previous albums of the band are used. So the bees from "Grant Chster Meadows" (Ummagumma), the bells of "Fat Old Sun" (Atom Heart Mother) and the drums in the middle of "Bring The Boys Back Home (The Wall). Also lyrically looks back the piece, is very atmospheric, has ingenious melodies, anthemic chorus and for a really nice guitar solo. Perfect!

"The Devision Bell" has become a great album and the last to date of Pink Floyd. However, in fact, a new named "The Endless River" come to be included on the songs that have arisen during the recordings of Devision Bell. One may be curious and listen until then still beautiful this great album. I have after I had only given 5 * star, but on 4 * star, since you otherwise would not know what to give "Dark Side Of The Moon" or "Wish You Were Here ''. Recommended to all who love the aforementioned masterpieces.
