I confess to being completely missed the existence of this work before I heard about for the first time the film "John Carter." Understanding that this film was inspired by a science fiction novel, I hastened to make the acquisition. "The Princess of Mars," which the film is based, was written in 1917 but this does not transpire in writing. While in Asimov or Bradbury, sometimes feels the "anachronistic" next to their SF, there is nothing in these adventures of John Carter. The story appears very classic. We are almost in front of a tale with a great save Prince Charming who share a sublime princess. It is easy to understand why Walt Disney chose to adapt it to the cinema. However, this book was written well before many major works of science fiction. In reading, we have no trouble feeling that this saga has inspired other great masters of the SF or cinema, notably George Lucas for Star Wars, Herbert Donaldson Bradbury or even some similarities between John Carter and Thomas Covenant are striking. Reading and style are fluid. The action never seems to stop. Another classic devour without moderation.
