Installation is easy, with the lower part of the box no technique involves, but only serves the height. Only the threading of the cable through the lower halves 4 boxes was a bit annoying. They can be mounted on the wall without the base. Also the connection is quite simple, because all cables have colored terminals and sockets are also color-coded on the player. The cables are also sometimes very long, so that the speakers can be well distributed in space. Most time I've probably spent to untangle and sort so that they are reasonably hiding the cables. For connection to the TV with an HDMI cable and we also have an Optical cable for the sound is required (both not included).
The manual is understandable, but very tight and only explains the bare necessities. On the Sony website includes a detailed manual (under name BDV-E4100).
A special feature of this system NFC, this smartphone is simply held for coupling to a mark on the Blu-Ray player. This is basically a good thing, but unfortunately it does not work with all smartphones, such as not having the iPhone, so this feature is currently useless for me and I also could not test. But there is still the Bluetooth connection to stream music for example and which is built really quickly.
About the TV Side View App can also set your smartphone via Wi-Fi as a remote control, but that is for the time being more of a gimmick, because the FB functions are spread across several pages, and the connection also terminates fast times.
The Blu-ray player has at the top 5 small knobs for the most important functions and a USB port on the front panel for connecting disk drives, etc., so that can also view photos, movies and home videos. Visually I like the players very well, at the bottom is a narrow piece of illuminated (during normal operation white, blue for Bluetooth connection). The picture at BluRays / DVDs is great and the player is very quiet, far from noise I noticed, as I know from our DVD player ago.
Operation is simple and structured menu navigation logic, so that one finds his way quickly. We use it mainly to watch movies via Netflix or Amazon Instant Video.
The sound is quite impressive, especially in films through the surround effects and "rummst" almost as beautiful as in the cinema, especially at higher volumes. And I did not get the impression that the sound effects / music drown out the language, it all sounds quite balanced on. For testing, I have selected include the Blu-Ray "Pirates of the Caribbean" and the neighbors have determined mitgefreut ;-)
When listening to music, I am also satisfied with the sound, even though it shows that the focus of these investments is movies. So a home theater replaces certainly not super expensive stereo, but that one can not necessarily expect.
An FM radio with RDS is available, it can be stored 20 stations. Radio reception with the supplied antenna cable is however pathetic, so I back out here on the satellite receiver or the Tune-In app that offer a variety of radio stations.
Otherwise, I've hardly anything to complain to the system, only to switch between the individual functions takes an extremely long for my taste. Sound and vision are impressive, therefore I forgive good 4 stars.
