The review refers to the version with the older i5 Ivy Bridge processor 3339Y and 256GB SSD in gray. Who 11s yoga should buy on Amazon here, but should rather pick up the 200 lower-priced model with i5 4210Y, which is slightly faster and otherwise has no disadvantages. By happy coincidence, I arrive at these facilities and could imagine first of no use to me, thanks to a 15-inch Samsung notebooks and a desktop PC. After less than a week using it has the Yoga 11S but rather to me.
I want to only briefly in writing the main points of the notebook, then I list some advantages and disadvantages of the Yoga 11S again in a list.
** First Impressions **
The notebook came with me in a simple secondary packaging made of cardboard. In this, however, was another box on which the Yoga 11S on a black background is abgebilder in orange design. In addition to getting started guide, power supply, and of course the notebook it was already with the delivery, sooner or later probably require adapters were not in (more on that later but more). This triggers, for example Asus clearly better and puts equal an adapter bag and its content as well as a matching bag in. Optically was able to convince the yoga 11s immediately if the gaudy orange design also has its charm. It works very simply collapsed like a simple netbook and is pleasantly light with 1.3kg.
The Yoga 11S comes with USB 2.0 and power connector on the right side. Also located there is a SD card reader and a button which is used to (de) activate the automatic screen orientation. Links can be found alongside '
USB 3.0 port combined jack and the HDMI port and a volume rocker. At the rear is only the output for the fan, on the front there are status LEDs, and unusually placed the power button of the device. If the PC does not start times or gemachen other problems, you can start a deeper recessed button Lenovo special services.
** Display **
One of the main points in a notebook is of course the screen, since this is the central communication interface of the computer with the user. The multi-touch IPS screen with 1366x768 pixels dissolves and sets Hand-inputs at once. While this is still in many notebooks, the standard resolution, here you have my opinion, but also like to be able at least install a 1600x900er screen. Since Lenovo "Yoga 2 Pro" already comes with a resolution of at least 3200x1800 pixels, a Full HD screen should be found here in the next generation safe. Unlike 13-inch Full HD notebook, however, the Windows icons are for, after all, a good size and there will be no scaling problems in other programs. The contrast of the screen are great and even with large viewing angle, the brightness only slightly decreases. Even when working with Word, there is neither the resolution nor other aspects of problems.
** Setup and operation **
The Yoga 11S Windows 8 preinstalled, which also necessarily makes sense in this device (more on that later). The initial setup takes only a few minutes, thanks to SSD the system boots fast and wakes almost instantly from hibernation / standby mode. Unfortunately, Lenovo installs some bloatware before on the device that should be uninstalled from the Control Panel. Almost all programs run very well on the device, write for small tasks such as text, look at pictures and edit with Gimp etc. extends the hardware from easy. However, you can forget about playing elaborate games due to the relatively weak Intel graphics. Anno 1404 is still possible, even playing Starcraft 2 on medium settings still liquid, more but you can not expect (and who would voluntarily want to play Battlefield on 11 inches?). The fan is only very weakly to hear prevails in office use almost silence.
** Speakers, touchpad and keyboard **
The speakers deliver very low bass sound, but are otherwise satisfactory. Too loud, they are not, but do not distort and are so good for some web radio. The touchpad for a 11 inch ultrabook of a good size and also handles multitouch gestures like two finger scrolling. Windows 8 provides still some nice additional gestures like opening the "charm bar" by swiping from right in the touchpad. With the keyboard I had in the first few hours are a few problems: it is quite difficult to move, the keys are very flat. Meanwhile, I can at the Yoga 11S but problems also blind and tap in the dark (the review is produced by the way straight on the device).
The function keys have been replaced by another standard occupancy (volume control, flight mode etc.), as it uses this probably actually more often. Conveniently, the F5 key, however, the update feature set. Otherwise, you can call the function keys via Fn key. Something unusual Alt + Fn + F4 is, but how often you use that? Unfortunately, you did not stand for keypad illumination, since the blind writing but no problems preparing not so bad in my opinion. At a trackball Lenovo dispensed equally, this I personally have never felt it necessary. The material of the palm rest is rubber-like, which, although only a little strange to the touch, but is not prone to fingerprints and optically well with the device.
** Features of Yoga 11S **
Anyone looking for a simple netbook or ultrabook for simple tasks is the Yoga 11S Although certainly happy, but gets better equipped for less money alternatives. The heart of the all-rounder set namely as two special hinges that can be rotated almost 360 degrees and make a very strong impression. Combined with the touch screen so are four usage modes available, which is why the Yoga also "Yoga" means:
1. Laptop Mode: The most frequently used mods for normal work, browse, write texts etc.
2. Tent mode: The display is tilted by about 300 degrees, so that the keyboard as support acts for the screen, which can then of course use only via touch. While taking off beautiful little space, but makes little sense.
3. Stand Mode: Here the screen is inclined at about 260 degrees. The keyboard is now using the buttons on the surface (but apparently does not), by the rubberized palmrest slip yoga very difficult. Practical for example when watching videos
4. Tablet Mode: Once the keyboard is tilted 360 degrees toward the bottom here a tablet, the screen is flat on top. Somewhat disturbing that the hands cover the fan part, the rest is very well thought out: a Windows key allows easy operation, which is above Anschalter now and the volume rocker on the left side. The operation works actually like a real tablet, the buttons on the bottom do not bother. Because of the "high" weight to a place but is looking to support the latest after a few minutes.
Window 8 harmonizes really well here with the versatile features: The Metro interface like in notebook mode, although relatively rarely used, especially in tablet mode to get to them as fast user interface, however, not around it. Even on the normal desktop to get by touch but along well, the customized Metro-Apps act but made for the yoga. And also in the notebook mode, I find myself always going rumzuwischen with your finger on the screen, because it's often more enjoyable :-)
** Battery **
The battery lasts depending on the use by about 2 to more than 6 hours. In normal operation with Office, browsing and similar tasks 5 hours most accessible. So you can a university day are good and if need be, take hold but the small power supply.
Pro:
+ Sophisticated concept with many potential uses
+ Good workmanship, pleasant palm rest
+ Contrast and brighter IPS display with high viewing angle stability
+ Pleasant touchpad with a few gestures to facilitate Win 8 operation
+ After a little practice very comfortable keyboard with good key travel and low Druckpunt
+ Thanks SSD working at high speed with "normal" responsibilities
+ Windows 8 pre-installed with Windows 8.1 update no problems
+-Responsive touch screen
+ Relatively long battery life
+ Stable hinges
Cons:
- But very low-resolution display
- Not easy to maintain
- Although not much installed, but Bloatware
- Lower delivery for a notebook in this price range (required for VGA adapter)
- Speakers rather quiet
- From time to time works the automatic screen rotation does not (press twice Windows butts then helps)
- No lighting sensor integrated edit: Apparently yet available :-)
Conclusion:
A great notebook with a variety of applications. The operation works well and the battery is constantly and the keyboard can be operated very pleasant also. What more do you want? Not more than a higher-resolution display, but the pixels are visible only if you look closely. Good work, Lenovo!
If you want to know what I use the yoga example:
Quick surf something if you do not feel the "small" (Note 3) cell phone screen; As a surf machine in bed (if you have nothing else to do ;-)), blogging on the go, as typewriter in the university, for fast image viewing, to stream content to your TV via HDMI; for other tasks that might take a tablet and finally: In the tablet mode to play by (older) games like Starcraft, Age of Empires, Roller Coaster Tycoon, etc.
