In American-style popular scientific writing, the book reads indeed amusing, but always scientifically enough. Who wants to know more about the systematics, botany, and especially on certain exotic species, of course, have to resort to other literary or scientific treatises. For the ambitious lover of carnivorous plants, who wants to maintain his (sometimes demanding) plant species-appropriate, the book is always highly recommended.
Peter D'Amato addresses the peculiarities of each species and describes in detailed chapters, such as the genera and species are to be kept. Here the book is very detailed and accurate. On the culture on the windowsill is just received as at terrarium, greenhouse, display cabinets and outdoor cultivation.
Especially in detail the following genera are described: Dyonea, Drosera, Pinguicula, Sarracenia and Nepenthes. This sounds at first time as if only the best known species are listed, as well as to Heliamphora, Darlingtonia, Drosophyllum and other exotics there are detailed instructions culture. Anyone who reads the book in detail, its plant is understood and followed the instructions, will be rewarded with healthy, beautiful plants.
As mentioned, some ultra exotics rather just described (bugs plant präkarnivore bromeliads, waterfalls, Devil's claw, shot plant, ...). This is the book but not to chalk, on the one hand also about the culture of these species a few words are lost and, secondly, because these are interesting but usually only for very advanced gardener.
In conclusion to say that there are probably few other books that can compete with this and probably none is as clear and detailed as this.
Anyone who wants to carnivorous plants not only buy, but also for years and longer maintain successful (more than 99% of the plants sold go to buyers a) should take up this book!
