The high-frequency whistling, which was mentioned by another reviewer, there has not been for me - that seems loud Forums entries to be a real hardware failure, but only from time to occur -> exchange!
After almost 2 months of desperate attempts configuration I have:
a. abandoned. The unit is currently in the exchange.
b. feel that this is a problem with the encryption. Unencrypted always settled easily achieve a Connect as soon as I had, however, only set up WEP, went nothing more. A total of six different clients had indeed found the router and made contact, but were denied access, even though I had partially tested with absolute trivial passwords (for example, only 11111111). With WPA went certainly absolutely nothing .....
c. must realize that the transmission and reception performance was even worse than that of a normal wifi G - router. But since I obviously have a defective unit tested, it is quite conceivable that a functioning unit a much better performance shows here. Wifi-N just requires WPA encryption - so I'm probably never come unencrypted in the enjoyment of a Wifi-N connection.
Let's see how now the replacement device works. As a longtime fan of D-Link (have here a Giga-bit gaming router that works for years without any problems) I will give the company even one or two chances to make improvements here before I get the device may also return.
Currently I run a simple Netgear Wifi-G Router -. Kofiguration about 30 minutes, each client receives an immediate Connect, WPA2-encrypted. At me and my "configuration arts" it was not so.
Finally it should be mentioned that the web can be found a lot of help (not for DLink, better "google") - but all this of course brings only a little, if the device is working properly and that there are only configuration error by the user. For me this whole proposals have brought all nothing!
